JRX PRO back to life
JRX PRO back to life
My son got his first real RC car this XMAS (Stampede). He's loving it. Shortly after XMAS a good friend who was into RC many years ago gifted me two boxes of old stuff. Pan cars, JRX Pro, Kyosho Raider and a couple of AM radios. I've got the RC10L running along with the JRX Pro. The pan car does not really run that well in the street as it just spins out to easy so I'm focusing on the JRX Pro to have something else to run along with the new one. I matched up one of the old radios and everything tested out. I've only run it once for a short time to check the motor and steering servo. The red bellcrank is cracked where the ball stud goes in but it seemed to work fine.
Re: JRX PRO back to life
Welcome! Nice to see another revived JrxPro!
Could you run that gear for awhile? Probably. Would I? Probably not. I'd hate for that problem to cause a problem with a different part.
Transmission components can be a little hard to find individually. SabulaTech often has these kind of parts, and the nice thing is that those are new. I found some Thorp metal diff gears there... not cheap though! http://sabulatech.com/storefront/product.php?id_product=1845 Another option might be to look on ebay for a complete transmission instead. Seems like those turn up every once in a while.
Steering bellcrank sets also seem to turn up on ebay pretty frequently.
Have fun with your car!

Re: JRX PRO back to life
Thanks for the welcome. Anybody ever try something like JBWeld to fill in the groove or is that just a recipe for disaster? All the other gears look fine. Bad gear aside, is this transmission strong enough for 7 cells? Currently it has a Trinity Speed works motor. The motor has a silver can with a gray and white label. Not sure if this motor can even handle 7 cells. Have a few other motors to pick from.
Re: JRX PRO back to life
Here's a shot of the motor if that helps determine 6 or 7 cells. The others are a Speedworks Joel Magic Johnson, Team Losi Revolution Racing and two AE Reedy green label motors. Should I just stick with the Trinity Speed works that is currently mounted to the JRX motor plate?
Re: JRX PRO back to life
The transmission should be able to handle 7 cell NiMh. I've run more powerful modern combinations through mine without a problem. Does this car have a slipper clutch? I couldn't see the transmission in your original picture.
The motors should also be fine. Since the motors are all used, you might want to check the condition of the brushes, armature, bearings, etc before you start running them.

Re: JRX PRO back to life
Not exactly sure what a slipper clutch looks like but I'm gonna say no. It has the differential inside the transmission which adjusts with an allen wrench. The only think outside is the large red gear that touches the motor pinion. No additional adjustments. Is a slipper clutch an optional add on? I'll search and see if a I can find some pictures in the forum for a slipper on a JRX. Does the slipper replace the entire transmission? Looks like I'll be watching Ebay for some parts if I want to get this car running so Dad (me) can have some fun as well.
