Sand Bug

Post by Vintagemishal »

I thought I would share some build pictures of my RC10 Worlds Car Sand Bug build. I am honored to have won the Golden Years of RC contest with this car. I will start with the done car. Then the mock up of the interior. I started with a flat sheet of styrene, a Tamiya driver, a Tamiya NOS bottle, Tamiya Wild Willy steering wheel, and the top sections of some New Bright Jeep seats.

I then started to heat and bend some styrene tubing to make the roll bar.

Next I made an Air Cleaner from parts from the Wild Willy's again and some styrene. I even made a little wing nut to hold the air cleaner on.

Next I made the drop down bracket and steering column, followed by the grab bar for the passenger.

Next up was the exhaust and oil filter. I don't have any pics of the oil filter before I painted it? It was made all from styrene.

Then came some paint. I painted the exhaust with Alclad Chrome and then wrapped it in a carbon fiber decal from a Tamiya F1 car. I painted the other styrene parts with Testors Model Masters paint.

For the rest of the interior, I painted the floor satin black with Createx, the roll bar in Silver Chrome testors, the shift knob in purple pearl Createx, and the NOS bottle in Pearl Blue Createx. I finished off the grab handle with some blue shrink wrap "grips".

The finishing touch was the license plate that I made on I think ACME license plate maker? I printed it and laminated it with packing tape. The screws are from an eye glass repair kit. The year sticker I made from some yellow decal and the number 10 came from a Tamiya sheet.

Last, but not least. The Bug Body is a Parma Baja Bug that I painted back in I think 09' The wing is from the HPI MT Bug. Well anyways, thanks for looking.

Too cool! Everything, top to bottom, looks great. Nice to see the Tamiya modeling details on the RC10.

The Hot VW decal brings back memories of my first car, 69 Cal-look bug :D
