How's your driving? Sometimes slower is faster, if you know what I mean.
I find 8.5t brushless to be terrifyingly fast in a 2wd buggy, but I know many run them. I suspect that's close to the practical limit. If your esc has a throttle limit, you could always de-tune a fast motor that way. If not, you can limit with end point adjustment on your radio.
