First time poster here from London UK. Came here by a slightly circuitous route, but glad I did.
Like most here it seems I had some history with RC buggies back in the early 80’s when I had a Tamiya Fox and a Kyosho Progress, both just for the fun of building and running and nothing more. That all got packed away owing to the traditional distractions of marriage, house and family, and then all the stuff eventually got sold off in the late 90’s when we converted our loft for extra space.
Now that the kids are mostly independent I thought it would be nice to go back to revisit some of the interests of earlier times and started looking for a Tamiya Sand Scorcher, noting now that the re-release market had opened up for the born-again buggyist. It was during that hunt that I stumbled across the RC10 Classic and decided there and then that Tamiya could keep its cheerful but rather mainstream Beetle and I would embark upon an odyssey of an entirely different kind.
I managed to locate a now hard-to-find new re-release Classic lurking in the on-line store of a model shop in Finland and as the Euro exchange rate was doing me a favour, picked it up at a good price... What a pleasure it was to build. Lovely components and fixings, a beautifully simple but elegant design and such a lovely mix of materials. The build was a joy after the rather cheap feeling the Tamiyas etc of the time had and on top of that there is all the history attached to the various model types etc, so wonderfully covered at the head of this forum.
I kitted the Classic with some of the new (to me) technology – brushless motor and ESC by Absima and a new lipo battery. Lovely stuff... That’s when the problem occurred. It was just too pretty to be cart-wheeled down the road. I needed something I could have fun with, bash about a bit and not be precious over.

So far the build is back up to rolling and I’m waiting on some connectors etc to sort out the period Novak ESC and receiver. I’m going to run it on old school brushed/nicad tech for now and then try brushless/lipo at a later date.
So much excitement to have discovered the Associated RC10 so late in life. They must have been legendary in their day and whilst pretty mainstream in the US they seem a lot less common over here.
