FPV RC10

So the guys down at our RC track also have an electric go kart track. on sunday nights they run drone races around the track. Now they're starting to do FPV (first person viewer) RC car races around the concrete kart track.

So that sounded great, the FPV stuff is getting really cheap nowadays. So I got myself the needed equipment, and now I needed a car. An RC10 of course! It's lowered with limiters inside the shocks.











It's exactly two legos high! ha!

Just yesterday I mounted a camera on my trail honcho and ran it fpv. Lots of fun!

Since the camera is velcro'd on, I can move it to different vehicles. It's a pretty wide angle of view, I can see all of the front of the buggy, and more.

The front wing is basically 5 pieces. a bottom, two sides, and two bent corner pieces, all screwed together. We used to build crazy wings as a kid, and we would get our RC10's to handle amazingly well. I wanted to paint it, but figured I'd leave it clear so I can see through it with the camera.

It originally came as a clearance item at the hobby shop, which I modified to be the size I wanted. I did bend/cut the base myself. It's held on with rear wing mounts for the B4, which have had the bottom parts cut off. The mount is then screwed into the RC10T bumper holes.

The little camera also has a transmitter built in, so you just connect the tiny lipo battery and it turns on. There's a small button that allows you to change channels.

There's a screen with a built in receiver attached to my pistol grip car controller, which has a built in rechargeable battery. You can change channels on that as well. And that's it! Extremely simple, and it works just fine. I may go to a goggle type setup that is a little more complicated, but not much. None of this stuff is what I'd cal expensive.








I'm using a Traxxas controller so I can use my stability control receiver, figuring that would help keep the car controllable. We shall see sunday night!

Made a roll bar for the camera out of solid steel rod. It fits into the old wing tube holes.

So how did it go? I did a similar setup on my slash but it vibrated so bad as to be unusable:( Any advice?

I drive mine on a smooth go kart indoor track, and it went pretty well. When I try to run it outside the video does get pretty bumpy. I think these cars bounce around a lot more than we actually realize.

I have since gone down to a smaller 1/18 scale ECX buggy with a better camera setup. The RC10T was kinda hard to drive, only because of it's width, I would catch a tire on things. No such issues with the EXC buggy. The new setup has a better antennae and camera, so it should make it that much more entertaining. The previous resolution and focus wasn't great. Still had a good time though.










I'll go back to the RC10 when I get some more time under my belt with this whole thing.

That's cool! Didn't think about the size and space of the wheels but it makes sense.

I now use a Quanum head set, instead of the screen attached to the transmitter. Works WAY better.





What you are seeing is a fresnel lens, the actual display screen is behind it. It's adjustable to work with your vision without glasses.
