Has anyone else gotten an increase in spam in the past week or two or is it just me? Some arsewad has figured out how to send me spam using my own email addy too. Today alone I've gotten hit over 45 times, yesterday was about the same, and it's been well above 30 hits for a week. Normal has been 10 or 15 a day.

Anyone have an anti-spam spamming email to send back to these incessant piss ants? How about a trojan or virus that might crash their servers for at least 30 seconds?

i usually find their IP and send it to the sbl/rbl/spamhaus to report it, from their either the ISP will shut off their internet, or block incoming connections to the US, pretty effective.

if you look in the headers and get a IP address.. you can usually do a reverse lookup of the IP address at http://www.arin.net to find the ISP, and most major isp's have the "abuse@" address, so like broadview networks would be [email protected] etc. Those abuse emails are usually handled very quickly since ISP's are almost liable for spam that gets through and can be shut off by their "parent" isp's (verizon, mci, epoch, sprintnet, crl, digex, etc), these are the companies that provide the "internet backbone"..

A friend of mine said he has a site that he will insert the info of a spammer, telemarketer, or other hooligan into and that site will spam the recipient with all kinds of stuff. I asked for that link and he's never sent it to me.

I don't take this stuff lightly, arsewad spammers know who they are and deserve every bit of grief they get. Sane folks who like to send that never ending chain mail garbage get a friendly, but firm, request to take me off their email list. Legit sites who spam get a fair warning to cease and desist before more serious matters are taken.

well the thing with revenge sites are that basically... unless its like a real person with a real email address, sending out like spam.. its probably 99.999% likely that the email they are using to spam is probably fake/legit/sent through a open relay.. so its kinda pointless... plus if they run spam filter like postini.com... 99% of the junk that gets sent to them or their domain will probably be blocked

Another problem with this crap that we have seen first hand here at the college is server hacking. We kept getting blacklisted like Mike spoke of earlier and had no idea why. Started checking traffic logs and noticed one of our classroom computers was firing up at 2:00am and running like mad till 6:00 in the morning. A hacker had got into it and was using it as a spam box.

So there is a chance that even the black lists or revenge sites won't stop the fury of crap in your box. Or you could target the wrong person.

All you need is a copy of linux (free), Email server (free), spoofing your buddies email and sending love letters to his wife but using a different girls name (Priceless).

Ah, well, these things seem to go in cycles, sometimes I get quite a bit of spam, other times it's next to nothing. I'll check Mike's links and see where things go from there.

As for the email spam, I hate the website spam. Thankfully we don't get the ads here from some Asshat claiming to have Iphones and a million other electronics WAAAAAY below what others sell for.
