Greenwood Corvette RC10

Post by XLR8 »

First, a little background.
I’ll have to admit that I’ve never been a huge fan of on-road RC.
Although, back in the day I've raced a 12e, 12i, 10l (which I still have) and some custom-built pan cars on carpet and tarmac, dirt off-road is really my thing.
I really enjoy the 3-dimensional aspect of off-road.

However, especially as I’ve walked my dog Sadie around town on the weekends, I can’t help noticing those big vacant parking lots for various churches and businesses etc., and they seemed to beckon to me.
Wouldn't it be fun to have an on-road car again?
So with no new off-road builds on the horizon, I’ve decided to build a road racer -- but not a flat plate, straight-axle car, I want a car with proper shocks at all four wheels and independent suspension.
A few months back I happened upon this neglected RC10 wearing a decent set of ProLine Striker road tires.

Perfect! Now I’ll just need to find the right body shell.
I’d mentioned having a 12e back in the day.
Somehow, I’d acquired a used 12e (in a trade probably) on which a previous owner fitted a Greenwood Corvette body.
It was very cool, the car handled great, etc., but somewhere along the way I sold it or traded it for another car – not sure what ever happened to that car.
Anyway, I’ve always like that car so I’ve been searching the web for a 10th scale version of the Greenwood Vette but no luck -- they seemed only to be available in 12th scale.
So, as my second choice, I’d settled upon a Porsche instead (911 or 934) -- many of these are available in 10th scale.

Checking the sources looking for the best deal and there’s just one place left to look before placing the order, OldRC.com.
Much to my surprise, there it was; a 10th scale Greenwood Corvette body shell.
Completely unexpected.
Awesome!

So, I’m just waiting for the body to arrive so I can determine what changes to the RC10 are needed to fit the body.
For a paint scheme, not sure at this point if I’ll attempt a racer replica or something else.

Thanks Derek, I really hope so.
This is going to be a runner so definitely will get modern electrics. The vintage stuff goes in my shelfers.
I'm gonna try the Castle 4600kV/Sidewinder 3 combo that I got for the Ultima.
USPS says the body will be delivered on Friday the 10th.
Can't wait to start the design process. :D

Me to. I've always like vettes in general. I drove a vette bitd, an '88, had it for 15 years, great car. Quick. Not sure of it's ultimate capabilities as I never had it over 150.
So the body shell arrived today and it's from a Bolink mold. How about that - I had no idea they even made them. Anyway, very nice.
The body is about 5/8" narrower than the tires edge-to-edge on the RC10. I'll definitely want the tires to be the same width as the body.
I guess I could try B4 wheels or some other wheels that will yield a narrower track width - or maybe design some custom arms. DS arms perhaps but they might be too narrow.
Anyway, sorting out these issues is part of the fun.
