Barn find Rocky, belt drive conversion
Got this old girl thrown in a box of rc , pretty poor condition, but getting hard to find.
These used to kick the Tamiya hotshots when i was younger.
Conditions too poor for a shelf queen so going to have some fun instead. Fibreglass chassis, and hopefully belt drive conversion if i have measured correctly.

Re: Barn find Rocky
Finally had a wet day here in New Zealand and time to crack into my projects.
Post has been terrible with COVID, but assembled enough to make a start

Re: Barn find Rocky
The Steering bellcrank is still under review, i know you can buy 3D printed units on shapeways or EBay but stumbled on this Yeah Racing HPI F10 arm, seems close, but i got a few to machine around with #F10-042OR if it helps anyone later.
Someone has "repaired" and butchered my original one as you can see.
Wanted gunmetal grey to match but it was only anodising left.
If it works ill give it to a Jeweller mate to polish silver.

Re: Barn find Rocky
Same bloke also did a dodgy repair on the bathtub chassis and used a bit of galv plate to patch it up.
What do you expect for a 30 yr old car i guess.
Problem is he also cut outvthe front gearbox cover too.
I think its part number is RK-04?
If anyone has one to sell pleaee PM me, even a Turbo Rocky unit, authough i think id perfer the monoshock, and fo have a full set of original Kyosho platinum shock for my next project

Re: Barn find Rocky
The manual asks for M2 X4mm screw to hold the suspension pin home, mine were stripped /missing, so i dremmel slot the shaft lightly andvused a M3 X 4mm titanium cap screw, sits down nice on the mouldings now too

Re: Barn find Rocky
I realise purists may not like the self tapping cap screws but ghe old car was too rough for a shelf queen, going to have some fun instead.
Managed to save the M2 x4 for the other suspension shafts on the front.
Be nice to have a new bumper to fit but shipping takes weeks, even Airmail

Re: Barn find Rocky
Getting closer, running a Fantom 14 x2 brushed because i had it lying around.
Replaced the last few bushes with bearings.
Fitted NOS arms,
Glass chassis and shock tower, excuse the belt pulleys, just rough trial ones until i find the best alignment, and where to mount a tensioner, think ill run a shorty lipo so that needs sorting too.
Found a Schelle B6 X graphite battery strap that looks promising
