Hi all!
I have a Shogun 4WD from the late 80s under restoration. The car was originally, back in the day, put together by my brother, with me helping a bit. It has a bit of a history by being lent to some friends, and it has seen some gravel.
It has been years in storage, and I accidentally stumbled upon it and had an idea to restore it to a running order. I am not aiming for a mint display-case piece but a solid buggy that still runs, and I could take it for a little spin, being careful of course due to the seniority of the thing.
I cleaned it up and did some paint touch-up and the car is in surprisingly good-looking condition, please see the picture. The electronics seem to be working, and it is paired with a Futaba Attack-R controller.
The rear gearbox seems to be working correctly, but now to the problem: The car is missing drive shafts from the front. The reason for this is most likely that they are removed to make the car 2WD, as the front gearbox is not working. I opened up the gearbox, and it seems to be missing the counter gear and its shaft. All other gears in the box are in good condition. If I had to guess, someone who has driven this car has had some problems with the FWD due to broken counter gear and maybe removed them (with the dogbones) to make the car run.
So, to recap, the car
- is missing the front drive shafts (dogbones),
- is missing the front counter gear,
- is missing the front counter shaft and
- the wheels are quite worn out.
I found the jap/en manual of Shogun online but sadly, it did not have very thorough part list that would describe the missing parts in any detail. Do you guys have any suggestions for the easiest way to source, or to replace, the above parts? Replacing the wheels is optional, but I would need to replace the missing drive shafts, the gear, and its shaft would have to find somewhere. The parts don't have to be NOS or anything. I would like to have the car in running order, so close-enough replacements are totally fine. All DIY solutions to the parts are quite hard, as the originals are lost, and I did not find any closed specifications for the parts.
Appreciate all the help,
Marko from Finland
