Re: Boyer sand rail
that's pretty cool, but i don't like how he has the upper shocks mounted. tops and bottoms of shocks mounted opposite of each other is usually only good for one thing.
finding the weakest point.

alright, lets see...................... do you notice in the pic that the top of the shocks mount from the outside in, and the bottoms mount front to back? how well to you think that shock is gonna pivot when the suspension compresses? the shock is not allowed to rotate freely on the shock bushing on the top. it's more or less rocking back and forth against the nut that's holding it on. which is the best way to destroy a shock. especially if it binds before the suspension is fully compressed.
i suck at explainig this sort of stuff. to me, it's just common sense that the top and bottom of the shock should mount in the same direction. front to back. unless we're talking about the a&l trailing arm setup.

but, hey.............. who am i to say it's wrong. he's the chassis designer/builder.

Re: Boyer sand rail
i'm following ya scr8p. if one of the mounting points doesnt follow the same arc as the rest it will bind, unless there is enough slop to allow for it... right?

Re: Boyer sand rail
that's another reason why instead of a normal shock bushing, it has fuel line in it's place.
and to me, that's like putting a band-aid on the problem.

Re: Boyer sand rail
Boyer mounts all his shocks on the chassis with fuel line. Crawlers, scale MT's, now these things. It actually makes for a really good bushing. I don't know if I'd want it on a high-speed machine that's going to take a lot of beating, but for crawlers and MT's, it works great and allows much more movement of the shock. I do agree about the pivot, there's no reason why the mount couldn't have been made the normal way.scr8p wrote:that's another reason why instead of a normal shock bushing, it has fuel line in it's place.
