No more CORR
No more CORR
Just released today, There is no longer CORR or WSORR. The two sanctioning bodies are combining forces thanks to Ricky Johnson and its called Off Road Grand Prix, ORGP. They will also be run under the USAC banner. This is great news for the sport I love and race in!!! Jim Baldwin tried to get CORR going over on the east coast and it just didn't work. Short coarse off road started here in WI, the midwest. We had WSORR. When the 2 split a few years ago we all suffered. The East coast had really high race truck counts but not many fans in the stands. We had 10 times + the number of fans (something like 40,000 at Crandon) but low truck counts. Im sure this will work out well for the both of us.
Can't wait for the new season to get started!!!
Edited to read USAC not SCCA

Re: No more CORR
There was talk of one in Fla but I doubt it will happen in the near future. If you can afford to, and can get the time off work, I would HIGHLY recommend going to the Crandon event on Labor day Weekend. This is the Indy 500, Daytona 500, Baja 1000, etc of short coarse offroad racing! This year should be the best ever with a full week of activities planned to celebrate the 40 anniversary. And now with the merger there should be a butt load of race trucksand even more fans! 15+ pro4's 20+ pro'2 30+prolite's. I don't think people that have never been to "The Big House" as Crandon is known, realize how big of an event this actually is. I must warn you though, if you come once, you will be coming back year after year. Its just amazing!!!
Re: No more CORR
Do they just have those 3 classes or do they still run super 1600 ,I think it was called, and other amateur classes? Sounds like fun, I wish there was an event close to TN

Re: No more CORR
I'm glad they came to a solution. I work with the wife of Kevin Probst and she would tell me about all the stuff going on in CORR. The writing was on the wall a while ago when people weren't being paid winnings and a lot of people came over to WSORR where Kevin raced. Many thanks for RJ!

Re: No more CORR
That was one of the problems with CORR. They only had the 3 classes and the average guy couldn't afford to race. WSORR and the new ORGP will have "sportsman" classes for us hard working people. They might change the names but there will be, super buggy, 1600 buggy, 1600 Light buggy, Formula 4X4 Truck, Stock Truck, Classix (class 6), and Enduro Truck.markt311 wrote:Do they just have those 3 classes or do they still run super 1600 ,I think it was called, and other amateur classes? Call911 is right about CORR owing racers a lot of money. They offered these big purses but didn't pay up. One of the reasons is they weren't putting fans in the stands. Thats not a problem over here!
Kevin had one of the most awesome, or ugliest depending on how you look at it, wrecks this year that will be on highlight films for years to come. Thankfully he was not hurt but the truck was in BAD shape. His crew put the truck back together in a few hours so he could compete in the second round the next day. If I remember correctly he won round 2 and it was one of the best stories of the year.
Keep an eye out for the TV coverage of all the races on SPEED channel and I think CORR is on NBC. I wonder what they are going to do for the upcomming season.

Re: No more CORR
Hope it all works out, this is the closest real match to what we race. Great fun to watch, I bet actually doing it it just awesome.
How about some pictures of your ride, including suspension closeups and such? Perhaps post up TV schedule info once it settles out. Better yet the actual schedule, I think there is a race in Michigan???
Good Luck!

Re: No more CORR
Not to mess up this thread...but ORGP...there has got be a joke in there somewhere. Maybe missing a well placed dash or something
I am happy to see the sport get stronger, off road deserves the coverage and prestige of the other forms of motorsports.

Re: No more CORR
Ill get some pics of my truck up as soon as I can. Might be a few days tho. Until then check out www.sky1racing.com . This is the team I'm on. We started the team a few years ago for the sno-x racing and have been adding more types of racing ever since. The off road truck is not mine. Its our team mates Zayne Roberts Pro 2 ride. My truck is not done yet so there is no pics on the site yet.
Id post the schedule but I'm not sure it will remain the same with the merger and all. As soon as I find out whats up Ill let you all know.
Oh, btw, there is a race in MI but it is in the UP. Little town called Bark River. Its probably the second best track of its kind in the country. They hold races there 2x a year along with Crandon WI.

Re: No more CORR
By this Press release it does not sound like it's combining the two series , but a three part triple crown series to run in conjunction with CORR and WSORR.

Re: No more CORR
Very interesting.... I would think that CORR can't stay afloat any longer after aggravating the racers and sponsors and the dropping of the last race last season kind of showed that. I don't really care what you call it (CORR, WSORR, etc) as long as short course off-road racing still gets televised coverage.

Re: No more CORR
That might be an old story Chrominator, however there is a lot of confusion on what this all means and I don't have the answer yet. www.wsorr.com has a press release about the subject. Ill update as I find out more.Chrominator wrote:By this Press release it does not sound like it's combining the two series , but a three part triple crown series to run in conjunction with CORR and WSORR.

Re: No more CORR
My fear is, these series start changing hands in terms of owership and before you know it, they all but vanish. It has happened in the past.
I am not here cause I am playing photographer and on my mountain bike.

Might have to find an internet channel/usenet service to follow Stadium truck racing, we get nothing for this in the UK
