Re: Vintage Kyosho Rocky - NiCad to NiMH conversion

Thanks, @Coelacanth . Do the speed controllers you're referring to incorporate variable gearing? I think the only way you can reduce torque (without also reducing speed) is by changing the gearing. Let me know! The punch setting on the speed control is more of a soft start so if you nail the thrott...

Re: Vintage Kyosho Rocky - NiCad to NiMH conversion

The other option is to fit a modern brushless motor and speed controller , they run much cooler and typically with modern Lipo batteries you can drive them for over 30 min but you have to remember to be kind the the old school transmition as well , modern brushless motors can be astonishingly power...

Re: Vintage Kyosho Rocky - NiCad to NiMH conversion

I have a question regarding replacing NiCad battery packs with NiMH on my 80s-vintage Kyosho Rocky. I assume the speed controller and motor were spec'd at the time to be able to dissipate the heat over the runtime of a NiCad battery pack. Since it appears that modern day NiMH can offer runtimes at ...

I've looked at these when they come up and had much the same response as you , curious , too rare for an organ donor for a Coyote , very fragile looking .
It's kind of got Mcferson strut suspension all round without shocks , odd choice .

Re: Printed gears question

I guess it really depends on how much load you put them under , if you use a 10.5 brush less motor on lipo batteries then no they won't last long but if your running a 21t brushed motor on 7.2 NiMH then you'll get a reasonable life out of them . I have some Yokomo 834b gears printed by Shapeways in ...

Re: Dadio's 3D Printing Stuff

As you may have seen I've now got a Mardave Meteor so as well as getting the old girl a new pair of sneakers and a new hat I've also started CAD modelling and printing bits , mostly just the gearbox and some gears , I was not initially going to do the gears as Mardave still stock two of the three ge...

Re: The dog thread

Well, it's been a few months since our precious Louie left us, so time for a new four-legged bundle of bark. This is Rudy , a 2 1/2 year old Kelpie. 20240316_165039.jpg We adopted him from a home where he was pretty much locked outside all day, and locked in the laundry all night, with NOTHING in b...
