I have the correct pliers for the snap rings. I bought them during the era when the rings were popular for off-road. I Don't have any snap rings to go with them. :|

It would really help you out if you go to Associated's website and download the manual. I even have them on my phone so I can always get a part number quick like :wink:

It can't be said any better than jwscab. If you do it that way, never have a problem with shorting a critical/expensive component.

No offense meant but those solder joints look like.... yea, you know what I mean. You can get a manual/resistor speed control to work fairly well with some attention to detail. In your case, remove everything, wires and all and re-wire.

The 6614 black idler gears are a graphite composition, much stronger than the original/stock idlers. If you run an all metal geared transmission, there's no give, meaning if by chance, something jams in the drivetrain, you get stuck in a hole, something expensive is going to break. I pulled out my last new 6565 and let it soak up some RIT Dymore Graphite dye this morning. It gives you a better looks at the aluminum parts now.
