XLR8 wrote: Fri Jun 08, 2018 1:49 pm Sparky, it's super critical that the set screw be tightened against the flat that's ground into the motor shaft. If it isn't, the pinion probably won't stay put no matter how tight the screw.
Wow! I can almost guarantee that’s what happened!!

bluewormx wrote: Fri Jun 08, 2018 1:34 pm Pinions are another can of worms.

Old US pinions are 4-40 and use a .050" (1.3mm) allen wrench
New US pinions are 5-40 and use 1/16th allen wrench
Anything from any where else in the world will be metric M3 and use 1.5mm allen wrench.
Awesome thanks for the info!

Re: Rc10 BRUSHED motor suggestions

Well I got her to run! At least for a minute...I can’t seem to keep the pinion gear right..I tried using a 1.3 Allen wrench but didn’t seem to get it tight enough to run for more than a few seconds before it slipped off. What size am I supposed to be using on pinion screws? Maybe it was just a bad s...

Re: Rc10 BRUSHED motor suggestions

Yup you got it together perfectly. As for the bronze/brass washer, yes you can shim the armature to miminize armature play but it's not super necessary for what you are doing. That feels good to have that down...thank you! Two more motor related question if you would pleeeease? The armatures have 3...

Re: Rc10 BRUSHED motor suggestions

if you are using a modified motor(which will have the retaining ring and screws), it doesn't really matter which way the endbell is put on, but it does matter how it is oriented in relation to the magnets. the retaining ring has scallops cut in it, which align with punchouts in the can. you place t...

Re: Rc10 BRUSHED motor suggestions

yes, something around 15-16 turns would be pretty nice. The issue is that you need to find a brushed motor that is still in good shape or still available. There are hardly any brushed motor manufacturers for r/c application as the industry has moved toward brushless systems. Plenty of stock type or...

Rc10 BRUSHED motor suggestions

I’m looking to plug a motor into my rc10 and drive! I have the old green and silver Team motor but that thing was stupid slow 20 years ago! I included a shot of my esc so you don’t recommend something that will fry my stuff. I’m thinking something along the lines of a 14-17 turn (if my recollections...

Re: Rc10 vs rc10T, which to keep?

I say keep'em both, too, because, nostalgia :) Yes, I would replace the rear axles on this car, you can still use them as is but your suspension is probably not working as it should. This should do: https://www.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXDWJJ&P=7 if you don't already have 3/16 w...
