I think the cougar will be just fine on clay, its not really been tested on actual clay, but has been on similar surfaces eg the cork/rubberised flooring here http://www.oople.com/rc/photos/worksopplayersrematch/ , which has some of the characteristics of a clay track. I raced my X6 at the JConcepts...

I too am not a big fan of the SX body shell till today but the car is very nice. Those alloy mounts are a must in my opinion...seems to tighten up the feel of the diffs.
