Re: Question about motor capacitors/resistors

they are capacitors, usually around 0.1 uf, or something close. 102 tells me it's 1000pf, which seems low, but nonetheless........ they are easy to pick up at any electronic store or via mail, or etc. they are used to reduce radio noise due to the commutator arc'ing, and are typical used in this fa...

Re: Rejuvenating my Optima

It's a Hot Bodies shock with a SS lower ball end from RC4WD. Thank you, Lefty421! Would you recommend them as suitable replacements for the Turbo Optima gold ones? My gold shocks are smooth as butter...I'd want something at least equivalent...thanks for the info! EDIT: Hmm...I've spent an hour or s...

Removing paint from nylon wheels?

When my old buggy racing buddy got out of RC cars back in the late 80's, he sold me his parts car (Turbo Optima) and almost a half-full third box of parts (Kyosho Salute). I'm certainly not lacking for parts! Anyway, among the parts were a set of stock Turbo Optima wheels that he'd brush-painted sil...

Question about motor capacitors/resistors

Here's a question for you motor gurus...or at least, you vintage motor gurus! I'm restoring all my old vintage motors (Kyosho 480 Gold and 360 Gold) and this particular unknown custom-built motor. I can't tell you much more about it other than it's likely a 4-minute motor--which back in those days, ...

Re: Rejuvenating my Optima

I think I read around here these shocks are good: http://www.3racing-parts.com/shop/kyosho-lazer-zx5-chassis-aluminium-front-and-rear-damper-blue-color-for-kyosho-lazer-zx5-3racing-zx501bu-p-10001396.html I'd ideally want blue shock bodies, too. Optima House has a listing of various cheap alternati...

Re: Your top 10 picks for most influential, must have R/Cs

I couldn't really name 10, but the following cars were very influential when they emerged. -Tamiya Grasshopper: Probably the first readily-accessible, affordable, and high-performing entry-level buggy at the time. -Tamiya Frog: All the millions who bought Grasshoppers bought his as their second car,...

Re: Dylon Dye Products

Have any of you guys tried Krylon Fusion for Plastic? It comes in rattle-cans and is a dye for plastic/vinyl and apparently bonds to the surface, it isn't just a spray-paint. I've used it to dye 40-year-old interior plastic & vinyl interior parts of my '70 Charger that were faded black & nas...

Re: chargers

A lot of online e-tailers are pushing the Duratrax Onyx 230. I recently purchased a DTX4600 battery, Onyx 200 and some Deans connectors from one such e-tailer. I was looking for a charger in the $40 range, and the 200 seems pretty decent, just lacking some of the value-added features found on the 23...

Yeah Racing shocks any good?

Thanks for the info Mr. ED. I was looking at some nice blue anodized shocks that would fit the Turbo Optima (70mm front, 100mm rear) made by Yeah Racing. I've heard conflicting feedback about this company regarding other parts, and the price is certainly cheap...does anyone have experience with thei...

Re: What wiring do you use?

Thanks for your reply, but I'm not sure what the era has to do with choosing the best gauge & kind of wire for performance. Well, because anything today is using at least 12-gauge silicone wire. Really hard to even buy anything else R/C-oriented. There are some companies that sell 18-gauge stil...

Re: What wiring do you use?

pends if you want your car looking 80's or 2010 i guess. pends what kind of motor/battery/electronics your tossing in there. Thanks for your reply, but I'm not sure what the era has to do with choosing the best guage & kind of wire for performance. As to the second part of your reply, I will ev...

What wiring do you use?

This is a question aimed at the performance fanatics who don't forget the devil's in the details. What wiring do you use, from your power connector-to-ESC, and from ESC-to-motor? 16 gauge or 18 gauge? Copper or something else? Back in the mid-80's when I got started in RC cars, I never pai...

I've seen that, but is it hardened or just a stock repro?

And going back to one of my other questions, what is recommended to more properly seal the chain guide cover to the chain guide?

Give me some buggy body options for Optima/Turbo Optima

Do any of you have suggestions for a body for my Turbo Optima other than the stock T.O. body, which I don't really care for? I *love* the original Optima body but it's too narrow to fit an 8.4V 7-cell battery. Have any of you tried other bodies and found they fit quite well? Cheers!
