Re: Bought a Lazer ZX for upgrade parts for my OMC.
Diffs (internals), wheels and tyres, front CVD's with hubs and the steering all on the Mid right now, haven't played with the shock stays or wishbones yet. From what I've gathered so far I'd say only the top deck and most but not all of the transmission can't be used on the Mid. I'm thinking of buyi...

Re: Bought a Lazer ZX for upgrade parts for my OMC.
Yep, I'm after upgrading my Optima Mid Custom and it seemed a cheap and quick way to do it.
I got it yesterday and will begin taking it down today.
Thanks.

Bought a Lazer ZX for upgrade parts for my OMC.
On the upgrade list for my car were gold shocks and CVD's but they're not cheap so, for right or wrong, I bought this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kyosho-lazer-zx-vintage-/200940030200?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT&nma=true&si=QxXLn0RWVqjTZ3nJ%252BJYZob0JiQA%253D&...

Re: Optima Mid LWB chassis question (picture!)
I can say for sure that some Optima Mid Customs had this type of chassis. I bought mine around 1988 in the UK.
Is the ally chassis regarded as cheaper/inferior? I would have preferred it, if anything.

Re: 3D printing.
They made a gun out of it!
Having said that, I would not want to shoot the damn thing.
I'm sure different polymers will become available, though.

Re: My old Optima Mid Custom with a few mods...
...Thought as much. I'll see how I go on with what I got. I must say, I am looking at that Land Jump that the Japanese guy has got up on eBay at the minute and wondering how challenging it would be to convert it to brushless. I am not a fan of I/C motors in RC cars. I'd keep the engine back so if ev...

Re: My old Optima Mid Custom with a few mods...
Wow, an endorsement indeed! I haven't used a brushless motor before and don't really know what I'm looking for. I'm thinking of putting all the old stuff like the motor, MSC, radio, receiver, etc. on the Bay of E as I reckon it is better in the hands of a proper restorer. Back on the ESC/motor thing...

Re: Optima Mid Custom CVD conversion info needed.
Mate, it's not that bad but I understand and respect your mechanical sympathy (",) I am currently thinking about epoxying a length of nylon tube between the diff outputs and the hubs, letting it set and then fitting it and seeing how it reacts. No friction and hopefully no twist which will shor...

Re: My old Optima Mid Custom with a few mods...
I'm pretty good mechanically/electrically but I'm a bit confused by a couple of things: 1. Why do some brushed motors have capacitors across the poles and some don't...a case in point is my own Le Mans 240st?? 2. Pinion gears...does less T eeth mean a faster top end but at the cost of battery life? ...

Re: My old Optima Mid Custom with a few mods...
I'm using the servo, ESC and receiver from a Maverick rock crawler which is responsible for getting me back into my OMC after 21yrs! I'll buy new stuff and put the Mav stuff back on the Mav then sell it...rock crawling is not for me. I didn't want to use the servo from the mav but the connector from...

My old Optima Mid Custom with a few mods...
Hello, I joined up as I've been reading some of the threads on the Kyosho board and was amazed at the info and knowledge! I bought an Optima Mid Custom in about 1988 and ran it for a couple of yrs then left it. Fast forward to 2012 and I bought a Maverick rock crawler for a laugh which it was £120 a...

Re: Optima Mid Custom CVD conversion info needed.
This is a quick pick of the little tip mentioned above...it does help to reduce the amount of play if you're running an car with worn parts.

Re: Optima Mid Custom CVD conversion info needed.
"(You can check out my CYANide, Barney & OptiMutt builds for more info on those GPM rear arms, I used those on all 3 cars.)"... Mate, I already have and I'm very impressed. For the time being I'd just like to 'throw' on some CVD's as my dog bones are pretty worn. I'll be uploading pics...
