Re: Optima Mid RERE

Just checked a second ago, Amain and HobbyTown are both "out of stock" and now on back order. This makes Kyosho as a company seem even more unpleasant/undesirable to me. Having a pre-order take nearly 6 months, then once it hits shelves it's "out of stock" in less than 24 hours. ...

Re: Turbo Optima mid SE

Found a few more parts. 240ST should be appropriate. No rust, no solder burns on the endbell. Needs a new label on the motor and the terminals cleaned up. Commutator cleaned up nicely and the motor seems to run well. Hope this makes at least one person on the forum happy, maybe two  Reall...

Re: Turbo Optima mid SE

I got lucky again in finding a donor Turbo Ultima that got me the platinums, universals and motor. Looks like the 1st owner assembled the car drove it till it broke and shelved it. Even the springs are nice. I will be getting the OT268 but also new arms if I can get the ones with the sway bar holes ...

Re: The problem with vintage Tamiya...

I don't built Tamiyas with the intention of correcting them. With a few exceptions, I accept them with their falts.

Re: The problem with vintage Tamiya...

If you have been eyeing a particular vehicle for a year, and you haven't been eyeing its closest comparison, doesn't that answer your query? Get the one that interests you the most, and ignore the money side of it. You can buy it stock with just a few "required" upgrades, then pimp it as y...

Re: The problem with vintage Tamiya...

I can relate, but I'm almost sure this applies to any Tamiya, just not only vintage. Their cash machine is the hop ups, and Tamiya fans who push the price envelope on 2-3 times the kit in hop ups... So for what reason would they stop? Now, my experience from what I built recently (I exclude the true...

Re: The problem with vintage Tamiya...

Tamiya is primarily a model making company , highly detailed models , many are RC Models and even a nod toward performance but what they do well and probably best is beautiful scale models , I highly doubt that when they made the Cheetah or the Rough Rider family that they had racing in mind , a bit...

Re: The problem with vintage Tamiya...

a bit of fun to drive maybe and just beautiful models to see in action . I think this is it exactly, but then I remember the Falcon  There is a Tamiya documentary out there somewhere. It focuses entirely on scale models, not RC. Tamiya blew everyone away with the scale stuff right from the beg...

Craig Dreschers 91 Worlds Stealth car

At the IconicRC Revival weekend I got to hold Craigs Detroit 91 Stealth car that he still has, he is looking on restoring it. While I had it I took some photos of it that you might enjoy. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/pw/AL9nZEVnfLMZk5zD6aK3Tf5KoDJiKTRih2gqywi30gai0nk7rXWOdUBzvdXmMvJOuPdmxQUWqfK...

Road Rally RR-10: Project Snowball Effect

From cheap set of wheels to full build................... So, I wasn't going to do any more long build projects here, because well, they are long and drawn out, and nobody really cares; they want to see the final product. But, TBH, the forum has been super slow the last couple / few weeks, so whatev...

Re: RC16? Because I like Mini Scale...

I have been in a sort of conundrum over this project, namely the the transmission. I don't know any transmission internals that will fit in the space of the transmission case and retain a differential. I have been considering using a series of pinions to emulate the internals of the 6 gear transmiss...

Re: Road Rally RR-10: Project Snowball Effect

You also might try lightly sanding the surface with some fine sandpaper to give the dye a way to penetrate the plastic. Thanks Doug! This tip is completely accurate in this case! Of course, with my laziness I replaced sanding with tumbling, but same concept and it was required. I have not done the ...

Re: Clear "primer" for polycarbonate

Doug I was watching a Createx video on Youtube trying to find painting tips. The video was highlighting uvls.png Looking at their site they have a couple "clear" Water-Based acrylics. 5601, 4053 I have used 5601 as a dilutant and in different situations. I have had no problems even mixing ...

Another 3D print project done

Figured being Labor Day weekend I would take a day off work and finally finish up my 3D printed AT-AT diorama I have been working on for about the past month or so. I scaled the print up 200% and printed it in about 26 different pieces so it's about 20" or so tall. Gonna have to build or buy an...
