Re: ** Build of the Month Contest - March 2020 ** - Winner - coxbros1

And it was just a year ago that the vote ended in a tie...
Hmmm, wonder what happens this year?
Good luck Derek and Lars!

Re: It's starting now (Apr2020)... CWF (tub) and Shiny RC10

Hi Lonestar What a great build! Maybe have a suggestion for the clearance between the two ballstuds. I have found short neck ballstuds give a tiny bit more clearance if used on the tower. If used on the outside of the bellcranks mine bound up the ballstud cups under full droop, so they did not work ...

Re: Mid-motor B1, B4, B6 V2

I aluminum brazed the 4 rear holes in the chassis and a couple near the front. I wasn't completely satisfied with the results. The brazing rod is harder than the aluminum, making it more difficult to finish. I am not also 100% confident in the brazing bond quality. Remaining holes, scratches and gou...

Re: Mid-motor B1, B4, B6 V2

The upshot of this build is to try and tame the whole dogbone insertion depth vs suspension travel problem. Also a lot of ability to adjust geometry. The first B1,B4,B6 worked out well, but just barely. The much longer B6 arms (75mm)/bones (69mm) pivot over a wider radius lessening the plunge. Still...

Re: Mid-motor B1, B4, B6 V2

Thanks Derek! Got some filling, sanding, filling, sanding done. Pretty much everything other than trans mounts, servo mounts and front end holes are filled. Servo tape for esc, receiver and battery. Drill for antenna after receiver is mounted. The 2 holes that the "C" mount pins go through...

Re: Mid-motor B1, B4, B6 V2

First coat of epoxy primer cooked in the heat of the Texas sun then lightly wet sanded.
I realize painting the chassis is not nearly as durable as powder or anodize but it's what I have on hand.
It will get a protective sheet on the belly if/when it sees dirt.

Re: Mid-motor B1, B4, B6 V2

After some wet sanding and second coat of primer and more sanding...
A finish coat of 2k clear.
Looks pretty good.

Re: Mid-motor B1, B4, B6

Didn't realize how long this has been without a body.
While waiting on parts for the version 2 of mid motor RC10 I trimmed a body for version 1.
I still haven't really decided on the paint scheme yet but it's a start in the right direction.

Re: Resurrecting my Houge RC10

Great score.

When my Houge had excess camber I tried a mod with a Shapeways 0-0 mount.
Works fairly well.

Re: Technacraft Links

You are more than welcome Jason. It was really GoMachV that said " Might be able to find someone with a single in their old pit box" when I thought hmmm. Looked in the same place that it had been sitting for 30 years and there it was. The only technacraft turnbuckle I had. Glad to help! Ch...

Re: The RC10 I've Always Wanted

Basher Very very nice classic presentation of an RC10. Quite vintage, just like me. I do kind of agree with jwscab though on the wing. Probably just because I'm used to a wing. Really like the driver figure, well done. For me they can be more challenging to paint than the body. Definately a BOM. Chuck

Re: Mid-motor B1, B4, B6 V2

And after a good nights sleep Option #4 A new top plate, a heat gun, clamps, dremel, sandpaper, a clean flat surface and a full morning of trial and error. Think I have a satisfactory amount of material without sacrificing any strength. It took a while but I'm happy with the results. Newly remolded ...

Re: Mid-motor B1, B4, B6 V2

This set of pics all look fairly similar to each other but there are incremental changes from the last post. Legit ball stud spacers (9630) instead of placeholder washers. 9577 inline steering blocks installed. 1" wide wheels clearance is good and 3/4" wide wheels is plenty. New 8442b axel...
