Mid-motor B1, B4, B6 V2
Hi all
This is somewhat of a rehash of a previous build with a few new twists.
A couple months ago I bought 2 RC10 chassis. One is a vintage 6 gear graphite. It is not shaped like a gold pan, extra wide near the front and more narrow at the widest point in the chassis.
The other a fairly run-hard-put-up-wet A stamp. Chassis also had quite a few holes drilled in it.
Thinking the graphite will be hard to find a body for I decided to work on the A stamp.
I started by trimming up the back of the chassis to fit a B6.2 transmission. Also trimmed the sides a bit.

Still got a fair amount of prep to try and get it ready for assembly.
Got the anodizing stripped today and started sanding and filling unnecessary holes in the chassis.
I'll post some more progress tomorrow

I aluminum brazed the 4 rear holes in the chassis and a couple near the front. I wasn't completely satisfied with the results.
The brazing rod is harder than the aluminum, making it more difficult to finish. I am not also 100% confident in the brazing bond quality. Remaining holes, scratches and gouges will be filled with JB weld.
Sanded to 800 grit.

The upshot of this build is to try and tame the whole dogbone insertion depth vs suspension travel problem.
Also a lot of ability to adjust geometry.
The first B1,B4,B6 worked out well, but just barely.
The much longer B6 arms (75mm)/bones (69mm) pivot over a wider radius lessening the plunge.
Still using B4 hub carriers but changed to 9689 B4 wheels. Looks to be within the 250mm width.
Pre fitting the trans to the modded chassis. No binding and the alignment is spot on.
With the recent heat, setting the chassis out in the sun really helps set the JB weld epoxy.

Got some filling, sanding, filling, sanding done.
Pretty much everything other than trans mounts, servo mounts and front end holes are filled. Servo tape for esc, receiver and battery. Drill for antenna after receiver is mounted.

I tapered the underside of a rivet and packed the hole and the outside of the rivet with JB weld, then riveted in place.
I punched the center of the rivet out and it left an almost perfect hole for the "C" mount pins.
Finally time for a coat of epoxy primer.

The front suspension is still not hammered out yet.
It will probably take a little time to accumulate parts etc.
But, yeah, I want to try something different.

First coat of epoxy primer cooked in the heat of the Texas sun then lightly wet sanded.
I realize painting the chassis is not nearly as durable as powder or anodize but it's what I have on hand.
It will get a protective sheet on the belly if/when it sees dirt.

A finish coat of 2k clear.

Got a couple of parts to go with the layback transmission and rear suspension.
The tower in the previous pics was the "long" 91770 and proved to be too long (tall) and not alowing decent droop.
This tower 91769 is better but still not a lot of droop. With the 27.5mm shock bodies and 27.5mm shafts this is the current B6.2 factory set up.
Outer pins are 6226 and turnbuckles are 1408. The threaded 4-40 rods were place holders till the titaniums came in.
I even found some 9608 B4 wheel spacers!

A couple of updates.
Mounted the rear suspension. Not as much down travel as version 1 but more than enough upward travel. Maybe why some B6 variants had 31mm shocks.
And got some trimming done on an RC10t front end. I still have the original front nose in case this goes badly.
