Removing Dye From Nylone Parts

I was wondering if anyone has tried to remove dye from their parts to get them back to white or so shade of white

I heard of using bleach, but I thought I would try Rit dye remover and see what happens.

Here is what I'm working with...goldpan parts I had back in the day

I wont get to this for a couple of days, but I'll let you know how it goes. I'm curious to see if anyone has any success

you not gonna undo the damage. just dye them black. it's really the only option.

so funny, that's what I thought. It is 18-19 year old dye, I think it had time to set in

I attempted to whiten parts (yellowed with use/age) using this:



Here were the parts:



and here was the result, not great, but acceptable for a runner



and no newer images, it is still sitting in the same condition...I really need to work on my projects!

hey, that looks likes it works pretty good to brighten up the original parts (non dyed). I might do that with my goldpan parts once I begin that restoration.
I would use some goo-gone on the crap on your chassis, which was left by the removed servo tape...that is if you already haven't

The eventual plan is to powder coat or have the chassis re-anodized. I have collected a few more parts since the photos (almost 6 months old now ). I think I will drop wide arms on there, I dont plan on running with the narrow arms, it was all I had when I started the build back then. I may just put RPM arms all around too....

Sounds good..if that's what you want, go for it.

Others may have a hard time knowing you have those white original arms laying around. You could easily sell those if you are not going to use them You possibly have some in tears lol Those longer arms sure do make it easier to control though.

as per the 6 months thing...take your time and make it how you want it

well....what can I say, it was fun. I think I got to dye them a dark colour, possibly black. The good thing, this means I will have to get the rest of a car to go along with it or I could just leave them be in a container on the shelf

I tried both the RIT "White Wash" and "Color Remover" products, which both contain the same active ingredient, and for removing dye from nylon parts, all they did was fade the color a bit (one part was originally died green, the other red).

I also tried the same two RIT products for whitening/freshening-up some white nylon parts, and the results were pretty mediocre; they weren't that much whiter/lighter afterward, and I did clean and scrub the parts very thoroughly beforehand with simple green.

I think someone soaked the parts in bleach & laundry detergent for a few hours, and they came out crest whitestrip white...

Just curious....separate "Temple's RC10 section?"

Here are a couple arms I have...I got a 50/50 approximate water/bleach mixture sitting in the garage doing nothing from
cleaning the fence in the fall. Will go drop these in for a few hours, and see if it makes any change.....

The bleach smell was not that strong, so not sure if a watered down mix will do much.....but I got nothing to loose at this point. Will try full bleach after this round for testing

ya, this one is a section for vintage rc10 tech questions. the other one is for new school stuff. lipos, brushless, spekrum, etc.

Ok...I'll stick to this one then.....I was going to start a new thread as I tried different ideas to get these arms white, but figured I'd stay in here until I figured it out .....

spend a ton of money buying new minty white parts. problem solved.
