Where do you get Tamiya screws?

Post by highwayracer »

hello All,

I wanted to find out if there's a place where we can get the gold 3mm X 12mm self tapping screws that was used on most (if not all) of the tamiya kits from the 80's.

We found a source for the standard 4-40 hardware that's used on the Associated and Losi cars, but does anyone know where to get bulk screws. I know we can always find screw bags (from kits) on ebay, but I'm looking for something more cost effective.

Thanks,
highwayracer

I've never seen a source for them outside tamiya. the most cost effective source I've seen is the clod screw bags (a/b I think) A ton of screws for not much money relatively.
If you are looking to restore an older car with the gold screws you will have to find old screw bags as the newer ones are plated differently. I think I read somewhere that it was an environmental thing with the chemicals used for the gold coating.

Have to agree with anthony, best way is clod bags or most of the other re-re'd cars will have then in their bags.

part splitters on ebay have the super clod a bags for like $4, which has a good selection of all length machine screws, but they are all silver or black, no gold.
