Alice In Chains
Anyone hear the new album yet? I'm listening to it right now. I was totally prepared to hate it, but I don't. I've listened to a few tracks that were posted on youtube and they weren't bad at all. I know Layne can never be replaced, but there is no reason for the survivors not to move on. One thing I've noticed from what I've heard so far is the lack of drug references which I think is a good thing. I'm actually glad for the other 3 guys, I always felt bad for them having their careers all but ended in their prime because of Layne's drug problem. Not trying to rip on Layne here, I love him and I think he's the greatest rock vocalist of all time, but it's hard not to feel bad for the other guys. Hopefully they can make contemporary rock radio suck a little bit less. Given my musical tastes for the past decade, I thought for sure there was no way I'd ever like any new music that wold be considered for radio play again, but it looks like I might have been wrong. This new incarnation of AIC is pretty good.

Re: Alice In Chains
I have only heard the one song getting radio time. I plan to listen to the whole album, I just hope the new lead doesn't try to mimic Layne too much. Naturally sounding like him and trying too hard to sound like him will make or break them.

Re: Alice In Chains
I've grown to like AIC over the past couple years. Aren't they the ones who just released "check my brain"? I'm liking that one. At the moment I'd have to say that Metallica is my favorite band, but there's a bunch out there with good licks going on.

Re: Alice In Chains
After the dude from Sublime died, the other guys continued with "The Long Beach Dub All Stars".
It's kind of weird. The new album is good. But, last night I was listening to it and Dirt follows the new album on my iTunes. When that last song on the new album ended and Dirt started with "Them Bones" and Layne's scream, it about knocked me off my chair. Layne was so friggen powerful. The new stuff is good, but old AIC was totally amazing.

Haven't heard the new one yet, but I'm a big fan. I remember seeing them open for Van Halen in 1991 just after "man in the box" came out. I had never heard of them at that point, but they absolutely rocked. Also had the pleasure of seeing Jerry Cantrell open for Metallica a while back-he was worth the price of admission alone.

Re: Alice In Chains
I saw Jerry back in 2001 I think it was. He had Sean on drums and Duvall was with him too at the time, singing Layne's parts. The show was at least 50% AIC material and it was in the Bowery Ballroom here in NYC. It was great, it was pretty much seeing AIC in a tiny venue for like $20.
Re: Alice In Chains
In '96 or '97 I saw Slayer open for White Zombie, then Pantera headlined. That was an awesome conert, especially since the tickets were only $12 and the place only had about 150 people. A few months later Slayer returned, but this time they were opening for AIC. It was a freakin rad concert. They were so good live.
Re: Alice In Chains
looking in view a top 5 AIC song. have it on all my playlists

Re: Alice In Chains
Okay, I just got back from lunch and pulled in with "check my brain" cranking in the truck. I have to admit hearing Jerry sound like he did back when he sang on some of the old AIC songs really takes me back. It makes me feel like I did when I saw them headline Lollapalooza back in '93. Damn, I'm old

Re: Alice In Chains
Well said. It's very troubling to see someone so gifted waste their life on heroine. Layne truly did not know how good he was. Their unplugged on MTV was unmatched. I have to say that the "new" AIC sounds great in their own way and I hope they can continue. I could have gone to the Philly show the beginning of the month but couldn't get a ticket for my wife so I passed. Hopefully I'll get another chance this time.MelvinsArmy wrote:Anyone hear the new album yet? I'm listening to it right now. I was totally prepared to hate it, but I don't. If it isn't broke, I haven't driven it yet.
