Black A stamped chassis!

Post by Lowgear »

This is my black anodized A stamped chassis. From the research i've done Associated took old stock of their gold pans, drilled them for the Stealth, and then anodized them black and sold them as replacements. Theres also a problem with the finish on mine which i'm guessing is due to a poor anodizing job. I know its not just a gold pan somebody tried anodizing black because I bought it directly from Associated a number of years ago. I remember hearing that they were selling off the rest of their aluminum tub inventory and if you wanted one you better act quick. Well I did and this is what they sent me. It seems like they were in a hurry, messed up the anodizing, and then forgot to drill the holes for the Stealth. It was also packaged poorly. They put the nose plate and motor plate in bags with the tub but didn't tape or staple them shut. Consequently they slid out of the bags and over each other causing some superficial scratches.

Theres a post or two about this on here but they had no pictures or information. I didn't realize I had something like this until today when I was researching it before I put it up on eBay.

Better idea of the finish. Tops like this as well.

they didn't "forget" to drill the holes. that's an "A" stamped tub, which were six gear only. black ones are quite rare.

Heres a thread I found on here of another member that had one.
http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=11766

LowClassCC on another forum.
http://www.oople.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35421

Mine came as replacement chassis with the US flag header card which i'm pretty sure was part number 6301. Unfortunately I don't have the card any longer.

So the A stamped tub's came black with and without Stealth holes? If the black ones had the holes the A was stamped over with a B?

See I thought all of the black A stamped ones had holes added for the Stealth. Thats why I said they must have forgotten to drill the holes for this one.

This is sort of confusing.

A stamped tub weren't drilled for the stealth........ no matter what color they were. AB, B, and C stamped tubs were the only ones factory drilled for the stealth.

With that being said it looks they had them but must of not put them into production. Templeofspeed posted a picture of one in this thread that was used in a manual. http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=11027

But to make a long story short I think I got it now.

Didn't some of the Dual Sports also come with Worlds tubs?

You mean because they will be easy to sell? If I listed them on eBay though I could get some ridiculous price. Image
