Anodizing Atlas's gold parts

Post by vintage AE »

I forget who here does anodizing, but I think they could make some coin anodizing all of those gold aluminum parts to other colors. If you wanted to just strip them and send them back to people, that would probably be a demand too.

I would consider buying most of his gold parts if the came in blue, but it seems like there isn't any options to buy them that way.

If I search enough and find who is doing the anodizing I might have some parts heading your way.

Problem most of the time, is that the Anod. needs to be stripped, and then reanodized, and it causes issues with tolerances.

yeah, I forgot about the stripping part. It might not be such a great idea after all.

I will be re-coloring a few parts I just ordered from Atlas. I will try to remember to measure the hinge pin holes before and after so that an exact difference (if any) can be definitively determined. I will be happy to report the findings as well as post pics.

Yeah, most anodizing places will let you know what their coating specs are. Are you doing it at home?

I am not. I have a family member that works for a local plating company. They do all of Kimber's handgun plating so I guess they know what they are doing. I've had some things done with them before and was very pleased. I have digital calipers that I can measure everything before and after.

Here's a picture of the measurement of the hinge pin hole diameter with the gold (as shipped) and the final product in black, after it was stripped and recolored. As you can see the difference is only .002"

That's looks really good...nice to see some numbers to back it up too.
