Jimmy johnson Soda racing

Post by RC10Talk »

I followed Jimmy Johnson back when he was an announcer for ESPN2 doing S.O.D.A. Racing and then when he became a driver. How is it possible that finding images of his truck are so hard. i remember S.O.D.A. did have a web site even with driver bios. Only image I can find is this:

Anyone else know of any pictures of his S.O.D.A. truck?

Wow Bill, I never realized you were from WI. I race the TORC offroad series in our neck of the woods. Im from GB.

I can't tell you how many people I tell that JJ started racing in offroad trucks and they don't believe me. I'll see what I can dig up. I may have some hero cards of his.

Funny story, all the Girls that live in and or around Crandon that are around my age (35) claim they have slept with him BITD . Im sure he slayed a few from around here but I hear the stories all the time how these chicks were lovers of his bla bla bla!

from jimmie's wiki bio...........

He began his racing career on 50cc motorcycles at the age of five years old. Johnson was successful on motorcycles at an early age, and by the time he was eight, he won the 60cc class championship despite injuring his knee with several races left in the season. From motorcycle racing he made the move onto four wheels and was picked up by Nelson & Nelson Racing. He went on to compete in several off-road leagues including SODA, SCORE International and Mickey Thompson Entertainment Group. During this time he was introduced to Herb Fischel who was the head of Motorsports at General Motors. This meeting would prove to be the most critical relationship in the furthering of his career until his relationship with Jeff Gordon and Rick Hendrick. During his time in the SODA, SCORE and MTEG series, he accumulated over 25 wins, 100 top-three finishes, six championships, and received Rookie of the Year honors in all three leagues. Johnson raced with Herzog Motorsports in the 1996 and 1997 SODA series. Johnson was a field reporter for Marty Reid and ESPN in the SODA series.

It was the same scheme as one of the versions of the Jack Flannery Chevy Thunder truck.

That doesn't count

Edited to add:
Might as well say his racing career started even before that racing Hotwheels with the kids in the hood

Born and raised here! Never did make it to a race yet, but I hope to some day.

I remember the flanerys had blue trucks while Jimmy had the red. Im almost shocked that no one (specially you guys) have done any vintage SODA era bodies for the short course trucks! Id love to get one painted up like JJ's red truck once was!

Leave it to a San Diego Guy...this book is readily available, note Section 1 skips over his rise to the top through the 50cc ranks
