Is this an early CAT/ProCAT slipper assembly??

I got this in a bundle of Losi JRX2 parts from a mate.... there were a few odd Schumacher parts too including this.

Looks to be tricky to adjust??

This is a Wasp slipper , that will fit on the MMS-Trinity layshafts , for multiple cars

Yup, a Wasp slipper... sold a couple of those a few years ago.... still have spares of the Wasp Delrin Slipper Spur gears NIP, if you need...

Its funny as I have only ever seem to remember seeing these fitted to Schumacher cars (Cougars, CATs etc)... hence why I thought it was a Schumy part.

I wonder if they were ever fitted to a JRX2... bearing in mind it came in a box with mostly old Losi parts?

Also @ incredibly serious - did these use the Tufnell spurs?... I have a few of those - I also have the adaptor to use them as a fixed gear on the Losi too.

The Wasp slipper fitted their own layshafts, usually white machined from solid Nylon. I've got one fitted to my carbon tub Lazer ZX-R and a 2nd one spare. Their advertising made a feature of the ability to replace the spur gear without changing the slipper settings due to the use of an adaptor ring - see below.

I had two Wasps that I sold years ago - one was for the MMS shaft, and the other was designed to fit on the stock Schumacher diameter non-slipper layshaft.

They also had two different spurs... a solid spur (which I still have spares of), and a "ring-gear" spur with adapter. The idea with the ring gear method was that you could set up your slipper so that it was just right, then be able to swap ring gears if you needed to change the spur gear. With the solid slipper spur gear, you need to disassemble the whole slipper to change spurs, and thus re-setup the slipper.

I thought the Tufnol ones were the brown spurs.... the Wasp Delrin slipper gears look like this...

Learned something new, didn't realise they made a slipper for the standard Schuie shaft.... Cheers Alex, something else for me to look out for...

Its interesting that the header card on your picture says for 'Wasp or Schumacher slipper clutch'.... what did the Schumacher assembly look like? As I presume this would have been for the slipper prior to the one that was fitted to the Bosscat & Cougar2 onwards?

Also I wonder what fitment my slipper assembly is for??

Yes, the first slippers they had were a two piece design that fit on both sides of the spur. The design used two small thin slipper plates, that had sandpaper on one side to grip the gear. -Jeff

I found these in an old magazine.





Looks like the original slipper was developed used beveled washers in an an alloy housing, rather than the now common spring setup.

Thanks for that scan CAT3K.... so from my memory it seems most people ran the Wasp unit rather than Schumacher's own slipper clutch - as that 'domed' nut seems to me so synonimous with early Schumachers running a slipper unit.... I can't remember the Schumacher unit at all (though I can remember how fiddly it was sticking those discs of sandpaper to diff rings!) until the later version with the spring.
