New to here, old to RC

Post by RadioFlyer »

Hello all,

First RC was a Tamiya Hotshot when I was 15. That was 27 years ago. 8)

I still have quite a collection of mostly older vehicles in various states but as with anybody who's been in the "biz" for so long, I have my token RC10. I bought this car very used a long long time ago in a galaxy far far away and I pretty much beat it senseless without it ever breaking. I've run 9T drag motors on 10 cells through it and launched it from rooftops onto gravel and it's still kicking. In it's latest incarnation it served as a trainer for my oldest son who is an RC geek like his old man.

I'm not really sure what model the car is because it came with various spare chassis parts and such. As you can see it has a graphite chassis and Stealth tranny but I have also ran it with a cut down B stamp aluminum tub (silver) that came with it. My son now has a PTI Goliath, an HPI Blitz and an AE RC18B2 so I'm reclaiming the RC10 and would like to start on my own old-is-new project. We spend a lot of time at the beach in the summer so I would like to turn it into a sand rail of sorts with a tube cage, paddle tires and a BL setup.

I've been lurking a bit on here, trying to read up on all the cool projects going on and I've gotta say that if I want something worthy of posting up I really have my work cut out for me. There are so many rockin' buggies here but the nice part is that they are all giving me some great ideas. I'm looking forward to buffing her out.

I'm going to drive it 'til the wheels fall off and burn.

Here are some pics I have shamelessly "borrowed" from other threads here that are swaying my direction.

This first one is self-evident because of the beautiful handmade cage on it. I'm not sure I can fab scale stuff as well as I can the 1:1 stuff but I would like to give it a try.

The wheels on this one are simply awesome. From searching here I found out they are still in production and I have located them being sold on Ebay.

This last one is really intriguing as the tubework is a bit more scale in appearance but also more involved. Just look at those upper shock mounts! :o
Also, the piggyback shocks are of interest and I really like how the whole car is low-slung like a real sandrail.

Welcome!! I'm new here to. I'm not new to RC, but just recently broke out my toys and dusted them off. :)

Thanks! Finally found it browsing through all of the great threads. I'm in for a set of the split five spoke design.

They were a few days ago.

I got the before last set. Someone must have gotten the last set yesterday.

Also got some aluminum arms and front mounts.

He had no more rear mounts left so I'm hoping a set will become available. Otherwise I'll have to find something else. Does anybody know if other mounts like say from an SC10 will work?

Also, I just found Mikedealer's tube build... Oh my.

Wow! The tube car is finely crafted. I wonder what the weight difference is?
