"mantis" rc10 runner

Post by knucklebuster »

One of my runners. Could have posted this in the truck forum too! I ran this for a day with a trackmaster tranny and ate through brushes and a comm in a hurry. I ran old school electrics, 3000nimh packs and bald step pin tires and lifted the 10t front end all day long. All the pics are running with the stealth tranny. If you saw the mantis in action... you would understand the name.

Beautiful buggy!

That last pic reminds of the one time I ran my RC10 on a beach, it was back in 1985-86 time and my 1st RC10. I didn't have sand tires, so just used the stock tires but that meant I had to run along the harder sand shoreline where the waves break... well needless to say I did an OK job making sure the waves didn't "catch" my car but if anyone has seen that video "The Winning Edge with RC10's", same thing happened to me eventually as does to that buggy. Slight mis-timed wave caught my RC10 and all over it with my Novak 4. I freaked, and took the novak speedo apart and motor and rinsed them both with fresh water and let the dry in the hot sun as I cleaned the car right on the beach.
Well before the beach day was over I found that after drying, that the parts worked perfectly! Thank-God as that Novak 4 was so expensive to me back then!

Thanks guys!

My first sweet speed control was a T4... as a result I have collected a bundle over the years. The old Novaks are awesome until you let the smoke out. I only smoked one T1 on a short course track in a 10lss with a modified Cam and HUGE pinion.
