The receiver that originally came with my ex 5 transmitter had the antenna break off during a wreck tried soldering it back on and i'm only getting 30 to 50 feet of range now.
Tried hooking up a different receiver which was completely non-responsive when I use my ex 5 tx. when I use another tx the new receiver works.
Basically I'm wondering if there are some receivers and transmitters that don't work together even though they run in the same frequency. And if anyone can recommend a new rx to get for ex-5 transmitter.

if you get some signal but a short range, this means that it isn't a compatibilty issue, but rather a signal one... could be coming from the TX signal (antenna holder not soldered properly to RF board) or from the RX (the obvious suspect being the antenna here too, but sounds like you have this covered).
there's soooo many things that can go wrong on a vintage radio
Good luck

Because you are still getting a signal to your vehicle, this means your radio still works. The shorter range is because you generally cannot repair an antenna. If you can just get a replacement antenna for the radio you have, I think that your range problem will be solved.
As for trying different radios, keep in mind that not all radios are compatable. KO will not work with Futaba or Airtronics, after all, Ford does not want Chevy putting parts on their cars. Crystals are not interchangeable between manufacturers either. You pretty much have to stay within each manufacturers own equipment line.

This servo came with some random parts I bought. I have looked a bit and can't find how to wire the extra wire. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for this servo?
Thanks,
Scott

I was able to confirm operation of the servo by attaching to a receiver and putting a separate voltage to the blue wire, seems to work great.
So the wires from the servo in the harness are: blue (signal) red (pos) black (neg); and the lone blue...
I use one 2.4 Ghz Futaba transmitter for all of my cars. Last night I drove my Top Cat around my track and it was dead slow, like battery dumping slow. Changed to a fresh-off-the-charger battery- same result. Nothing apparently wrong with the car...

I’ve had this exact experience with my futaba as well. I’ve done it countless times now and always only realize when the particular vehicle I’m driving is doing something strange. If only I could remember to make sure I’m set to the correct one...
im looking at a used rc truck it can come with either the flysky radio new in the box or the stock team ae radio.

If you refer to flysky GT3B , no problem here, it is a best value for money radio
Radio has memories for 10 cars and extra receivers are super cheap, so you can have a receiver in each car.
I would choose that, unless you have some kind of romantic...
Thought some folks here might get a kick out of this...
I bought this close to 30 years ago (well, actually my parents bought it for me ;) ) at the same time as my first real R/C car, which was a Tamiya Sand Scorcher. I'm still using it today to...

Very cool. Must bring back a ton of good memories!
Does anyone have any info on this speed control? It came with my gold pan and it would be nice to know the limits of it. I have a couple 27 Turn motors i could run with it as long as i know that they would be safe. One is an Epic Binary Prostock and...

I had 2 of them back in the 80's.
They can't really handle any r/s today. If was 100% new and sealed from the moisture it will be fine. I found out the hard way with a CX1 way higher spec than the cx 11,. Electronics absorb moisture and slowly...
The centering spring for the wheel on my transmitter let go this weekend. Trying to hold off on big purchases for a bit, so I thought I'd take a stab at opening this one and seeing if I can print what I need. Got all the screws out but it doesn't...

Fortunately my job still swaps out customer printers and had a bunch of old Dymos in the bin. From my printer design days I recall that Dymo likes to use worm gears and extension springs (super specific industry knowledge), so I took apart a few...
