Thanks. I thought about that, modifying the trans internally, but I lack the machining tools just yet. All I'm working with is a bench grinder, belt sander, Dremel, drill press, and hand files.

For the front and rear, Im using XXX-S or XXX-4 rear diff cover halves. The covers normally attach to the XXX-S style 1 piece chassis, but 2 rear or 2 front can be mounted to each other, and hold the belt diff perfectly, with bottom mounting holes to attach to the chassis. One side would have to be opened (Dremel) to allow for the belt to run through.

Best part about that, are the pivot blocks that factory mount directly to the covers. I swapped the XXX-S's diffs molded outdrives (3097), for the bushing style (3095), that way I can use the X2's telescoping axles. Im still debating whether or not to use the 5 link, right now it has LXT rear ams. If 5 link, then I need to keep the JRXT wheels I have, to keep the wider offset, and build this as a bada$$ street truck 8)

This JRX-S type R setup, is an alternative option / idea I had, again using a trimmed motor plate, and the X2's trans havles, with this (pictured) laid through the stock spur gear shaft hole, flanged bearings, spacers, ect...

well, being at phase one still (rear wheel belt drive only), it keeps evolving so yes theres progress. ill try to snap some pics tonight.

might have a solid lock on the front drive setup. the major issue seems to be solved, using rear JRX2 telescoping axles up front as well. the turning pivot must line up with the axle pivot, very important. once the rear is finished, ill begin the front end.

I decided to add a semi used Proline monster truck conversion kit to the mix, just to give some flare. it even has new Proline Tractagator tires I got here on the Talk, for show use only, and Street Tracs for run time. it looks very intimidating with the full spikes.

next im swapping out the XXX4 front and rear diff pulley to XX4 pulleys, smaller and allow for a smaller diff casing / cover footprint. Ill also use the smaller pulleys from the XX4 gear kit at tensioners to keep the top of the belt above the steering arms.

last, ill convert the spur and pinion to Hyperdrive making it a belt driven, belt drive badda$$ mofo 8)

UltraHIVE's - JRX2 / 4WD Challenge... with Pics (Updated 9.5

Post by UltraHIVE »

Heres some updated cell phone pics (sorry), was up late working on it last night. There a few things left to do, but I'm running it today, cant wait. Still have to re-configure the rear toe-in links, mounting the inner ball links lower. Also have to fiddle with the front axles, honing out the hinge pin holes just a hair, and setup a proper battery holder. I plan to use a Ford f150 stadium body, done up in white with red, orange, yellow and black graphics... Heres a breakdown of whats there. Enjoy the pics :)

XXXS (sandwiched) rear diff covers
shortened JRX2 telescoping shafts
XXX4 front shock tower (rear setup)

That is a pretty crazy build with a ton of work put in the rear. With the way the rear turned out, I am sure the front will turn out just as nice. Keep up the good work.

Thanks, hope so about the front end. Found a new way to run the steering cranks so that will definately help. This is that steering I mentioned, from the mini JRXT I'm working on...

looks good! You are going to have some wacky suspension operation in the rear though with the location of the upper links.

I hope you are making metal outdrives for this beast. Because I doubt those light XX ones on there right now will be up to the task long term. They are meant for much smaller diameter wheels. Those large tires are going to put some major stress on them when you come off a jump.

Still, it looks really cool. Keep her going. Can't wait to see more.

well, the BF tires werent really in the plan, nor was track racing for this. just wanted to see how it would look and handle. I'm actually using a set of Proline Strikers, low profile street tires, with a low stance and stiff suspension. the tires spin a little which helps reduce stress on the outdrives, which are pretty thin. plus Im adding a spur slipper to allow for the Hyperdrive pulleys. i spent too much effort in this and the mini to take them onto a track, street and driveway playtime only. I got 2 custom JRX2 based racers, a XXX and a XXX4 just for good ol' track bashing :)

spur slipper, allowing for Hyperdrive pulleys...
