Got me my first gold pan and an issue

Post by slim_chance »

Out of a trade with my new buddie Vintage 88 I got a stealth ready roller no trans and I thought I had the perfect trans for it. One of of a T3. I recived my good condition gold pan today and got all giddy and started to try to put my trans on it when it hit me. Dangit the gearbox is too fraking long..grrrrr...... I realize that I could make it fit but it means either hacking the beautiful white plastic bulkhead or cutting the nub off of the front of the trans off and hope to trust 2 screws holding it on. Niether sound like a good idea. So I have 2 more options either build my own custom bulkhead or hangit up send the trans with the rest of the t3 parts off to Vintage 88 because he needs one and either adapt a b4 trans or wait till I can get an older stealth. So on to some pics. Here is the chassis these are the pics he sent me but it came exactly as pictured

as you have found out, they aren't exactly the same. You could modify the bulkhead and mount the trans and arm mounts on a small plate with a cutout and it will all line up and work. Or you could cut a hole in the pan and mount the trans direct. either way you need to get fancy with a upper brace mount. There have been a few guys that have done this. Soniccj5 did what you are attempting to do:

OR just keep an eye out for an original stealth trans.

send the parts to vintage 88 . Find a 10 or 10t stealth your chassis is already drilled for one and you have the gear cover.

Yeah that has become the plan. I like my gold pan I was looking for a runner quality car and he sent me the perfect car for the job.

You can check out my installation of a B4 trans in a gold pan with no new holes

http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=26304

Or here is Toasted Coastie's version

http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=16956&hilit=b4+transmission&start=15

I also have a rev 2.0 which works out a little cleaner. Hoping to post it soon.

I am interested in your build. Do you have any type of template for it? I would rather not make new holes.

I have some templates, but they are a little "sketchy". Let me see what I can get together. I have also tweaked them a bit for the second pass. Let me see what I can get together.
