From what I know the 870c was released in 1987. The slightly revised YZ-10 had slightly better shock seal assemblies, the U.S style body shell and white wheels to replace the pink of the 870c.

What shock collars came on the yz10?

I have aluiminium ones with set scews on my 870c but I got it second hand in 1989 and am not sure if those were aftermarket.

I would post pics but cannot from the iPad and it's all I have access to at he time.

I have seen pics of the alloy shock collars but never seen them in person on any car. I wonder if these were an early release?

Looking closer at a pic of the 870c box it does seem to have alloy collars. Cool.

Anybody have an idea how many 870s were imported?

Yeah the concept art on some boxes leaves me a little puzzled. While I know those alloy clamps exist I figured they may have been on the earliest versions as I've seen the plastic ones also on the 870c.

It took me a while to figure out but the SG COYOTE for example had parts on the box art car that didn't come out on the production version. Even the lexan shell was borrowed from the AYK 566B. They look similar but are not the same.

Any idea mow many 870c's were imported to the states with the all Japanese instruction manual (good thing they took lots of pics  )? I bought mine from the owner of a hobby shop in Ohio in 1989 and believe he got it from his Associated sales rep at the time.

Recently I have been running it with a lipo/brushless set-up and having a blast but trying to decide if restoring it is the way to go from here since I have recently acquired a yz10 that will be a runner. I hate to put such a capable steed to pasture, but I may find as much satisfaction running a yz10 without the fear factor of destroying a really rare bird...you thoughts are welcome.

here are some pics of the alloy shock collars, the shock internals were different between 870c and yz10 and so was the way the shocks were mounted, rubber as opposed to nylon. Out drives were also different 870c having brass tube which kept the bearings in the bulkheads, yz10 did not. Got a mean hangover and that's all I can remember chaps

That's perfect, thanks. Alloy collars stay on the resto....I noticed som of my rubber hock mounts are shot, those will be impossible to find I imagine :|

that's ok glad i could help a little. the only place i've seen the alloy collars is in the gold rear long body shocks nip, so keep an eye out for gold shocks with a yokomo header card. as for the rubber bushings there must be a very close match out there, take a picture and put it here
