Need help with a LAZER ZXR
Hello all,
Ive just been replacing a worn drive belt in my ZXR mk2 buggy and I dont have a manual. Ive got plenty of new and used spares and the car was currently fitted with what could be a solid Delrin spur drive hub and shaft. Ive never see one of these before but I want to fit the original shaft and hub set up with the adjustable one way and slipper. Im not sure what carries the bearing closest to the slipper plates though. Does anybody know much about these cars??? I would like to get this car up and going. Cheers-Jason.

Re: Need help with a LAZER ZXR mk2
Been running Lazers ever since they first came out so not much I don't know.
Lazer ZX-R manual including ZX-RR supplement leaflet which should cover everything on your ZX-R Mk2.

If you have any questions after checking the manual just ask.

Not to high jack, but why don't these sites carry Yokomo manuals? I really could use a look at the 91 and 93 werks manuals.
I am not here cause I am playing photographer and on my mountain bike.

Re: Need help with a LAZER ZXR mk2
The reason these sites don't host Yokomo manuals is because no one sends them in. If someone scanned them in they would put them up, they can't put up what you want if no one has the scans.
BTW they already have the Works 93 manual

A big Thankyou Terry. My good friend Jeroen also pointed me in the same direction. I really like my ZXR mk2. Can you tell me the difference between the ZXR and the MK2??

Re: Need help with a LAZER ZXR mk2
In case no one told you, the MK1 is the better of the Lazers, as the chassis layout is more central where as the Mk2 has the batts further backwards, so it jumps like a 2wd but just doesnt feel balanced when driving. The Mk2 works better on dirt tracks (won the euro champs)and the MK1 better on high grip (UK national Champ) tracks even tho it made an A at the worlds. Also the MK has the motor further backwards as well, so another reason why it didnt work well.
Even the ZXS is based on the MK1 chassis and the motor is in roughly the same position.

Re: Need help with a LAZER ZXR mk2
From memory, the changes from mk.1 to mk.2 are:
- different lower chassis to move cells rearwards (as Kyosho Fan said)
- upper chassis is longer and has triangular cut outs, not rectangular
- motor plate is shorter to allow cells to move rearwards & motor bolts directly to it unlike mk.1 which used an adaptor plate from the Optima Mid
- gear cover cut shorter to suit above
- LHS side plate (small alloy brace above motor) is larger and curves 90 degrees around front of motor, down to the lower chassis
- battery posts and straps now use body pins instead of the mk.1 plastic spring clip design
- slipper uses a coil spring instead of the wave washers
- rear hubs have an "L" shaped plastic plate screwed to them to alter rear roll centre via turnbuckle pivot pick up
- Front shock tower curves over at the top with more shock mounting holes (mk.1 is a plain "U" shape tower)
- Front castor blocks have a second wishbone pivot hole to push the front track out wider
- Longer front UJ's to suit above
- Front turnbuckle outer pick up point drops the mk.1 "cranked" plastic rod end and has a unique fixing to castor block
Think that's all. I can post photos or scan the Mk.2 manual addition if it will help.
Regards,
Ian

Re: Need help with a LAZER ZXR mk2
Ian above has covered most of it.
The Mk2 also has tapered washers instead of the nuts between the steering centre link and the ball joints. It also uses the six hole rear shock mount compared with the Mk1 4 hole shock mount

Re: Need help with a LAZER ZXR mk2
It seems when a person wants to go digging around for info on these old Lazers much can be learnt. While at first I found it all a bit daunting I now understand with the help of those knowledgeable folks out there who have been patient and explained the differences for us all. I have seen been researching manuals and photos. It certainly explains plenty.
Thank you.
Thank you.

...and all this time I though I had a ZXR Mk2......
(what a goose)
From what I have learnt it looks like the car is actually a ZXR (Mk1) with other upgrades such as shock towers, steering bell cranks, ZXS shell... but the core of the car is still ZXR.

Re: Need help with a LAZER ZXR
I'm a little confused too. I always thought it was only the ZX-RR which had the longer upper deck, shorter motor plate and batteries placed further back.
So it was the MK-II that had these changes as well?

Re: Need help with a LAZER ZXR mk2
yes, it's a ZX-R chassis, top deck and associated parts, mated to ZX-R Mk2 front suspension uprights, kingpins and front and rear shock mounts. Blue steering parts and rear uprights are much later parts, found on the ZX-S Evo.J.M. wrote:...and all this time I though I had a ZXR Mk2......(what a goose)

Re: Need help with a LAZER ZXR
The ZX-RR was the full spec version, the ZX-R mk2 was basically a ZX-RR with the hyper clutch replaced with the standard ZX-R slipper and the Ultimate shocks replaced with normal golds. The changes kept the kit price down and was sold in markets where the price of the ZX-RR would have limited sales.HKS_TRD wrote:I'm a little confused too.
