Losi XX servo advice

Post by LosiXXkid »

Found this forum a few weeks ago which seems to have re-ignited the old R/C bug and in particular my love of Losi's...it also seems to have helped empty my wallet as well!

I doubt that I will ever go racing again but I would certainly like to get the 'old girl' up and running for a bit of fun. So I need a bit of help with my servo choice. I didn't keep any of my electrics as I sold everything (apart from my XX) years ago. I think I used to have a Futaba S9001 (?) steering servo which was small enough that you didn't have to remove half of the mounting ears from each side of the case. So my question is, is there a servo around today that will fit the XX without having to modify the servo case to fit the XX chassis?

What servo do you recommend? Or is there already a thread on this subject that I have missed??

Thanks guys.

So you didn't use the servo posts? Must been a really small servo. Did you use double sided tape or something above or below the servo? I don't know anything about the new electrics so cant answer about any new servos.

Hadn't thought about trimming of the servo ears in a long while. I would get an inexpensive servo of the right size and trim the correct ears per the manual. Would think the steering would benefit from a servo with decent torque and speed.

Good question maybe someone else can help.

Welcome to the forum!

Ive got a couple of XX buggys and a XXT one thing i hate with them is that you have to take the ears off the servo to fit the chassis, however there are a few options for servos with half decent speed torque for around the £20 mark

Ive got a couple of these

Not quite a s quick as your savox servos etc but still quick enough without breaking the bank, and have proved reliable as well

Think alturn is another make i have seen people use which isnt expensive

Thanks for the information. I'll be sure to take a look....

I looked at the price of some of the latest top-notch KO servos recently....scary!

The Savox brand is new to me but I'm assuming that they are decent servos for the money??

I have started using savox servos ad I am very impressed. The offer very good value and excellent performance for their price. For the same money as futaba they offer better specs, so the value is better. Unless I absolutely need the best, I will be using savox from now on.

I dont know the tooth count on the savox servo but the losi arms have tooth count stamped onto them.

I think Savox is 25, like Futaba.

Just had a quick look on savoxusa.com and can confirm that 25T is correct for most of their servos. They do make versions for 1/5 scale cars which are 15T though. Here's a link to the site with all the specs:

http://www.savoxusa.com/Savox_Car_Servos_s/17.htm?searching=Y&sort=13&cat=17&show=10&page=1

By the way, I bought a nearly new sc1251mg for £30 posted a few weeks ago and both the quality and speed are excellent. Don't think it fits the xx without cutting the ears though, which is why I'm using it for my CR2.

Hope that helps.

Sascha

Why don't you want to trim the "ears" off ? when mounted in another application the two remaining mounts are more than sufficient for almost any normal r/c use.

From the helpful feedback received, (thanks guys!), it would appear that the Savox range of servo's tick all the right boxes - something like the SC-1258 looks spot on and a replacement case is also available for around £5.00.

Now that my memory has been re-vitalised (by this forum), I do seem to remember buying a replacement Futaba servo case so that when I removed the servo from my XX all those years ago, I was able to return it to it's original condition prior to selling it. I think that is why I was confused.....but I do now remember having to trim the servo ears prior to installation.....

I'm always conscious of resale value which is why I was not happy about having to remove part of the servo ears to get it to fit in the XX but now, since a replacement servo case is readily available, the problem is no more. :D
