need some advice
well. its been long since vie been here, but since its summer, i finally have time on my hands
gonna sell the rustler soon, and i was hoping on getting either an rc10t2 or an rc10gt (leaning toward an rc10gt)
ive always wanted a nitro ST
i have a couple questions about the tub GT and the 2nd gen GT
other than the chassis, what parts are different between them?
was the 2nd gen GT based off the t/t2 parts? or the t3 parts?
the tub GT is obviously based off the t/t2 parts.
from experience, im probably gonna get a roller, as most people that sell their nitro's either abused them, or ran them wrong, and plus, i could get a nova rossi .12 from my cousin for $50, he keeps his stuff super clean, and ive driven his xxx-nt(which has the NR in it)
im looking for a track car, which would suit it better, the tub GT or the 2nd gen blue chassis GT?
also, any advice you guys can give to me, please do, i dont wanna make the wrong choice here
if i get the T2, ill be running a novak cyclone and a speedgems 14t for bashing, and bump it up to a 10x2 fantom alloy mod for racing
got the GT, ill be running either an OS .12 cv-r or my cousin's nova rossi .12 (ill get the model name from him)... no, i wont run a .15 a .12 is more than enough power to push a stadium truck(damn new generation people running .18.......... lol)
(PS: ill be lurking all over lol)

Re: need some advice
You can get a gt roller pretty reasonable. The immediate differences between the tub and the flat chassis are mostly all chassis related. The chassis, nosetubes, motor mounts are the only things coming to mind making them different. I've owned both and loved them both. IMO if its a short turn, technical track I'd use the tub chassis since I thought they had more ability to tune and could get a tighter turning radius out of my tub. I had better luck with the flat chassis for the big oval we had. But like I said its just my opinion. I run with a guy that ran nothing but tub chassis cuz he couldn't get his flat chassis to turn...his opinion worked for him though.
If your cousin has a nova rossi .12 for $50 take it. If you don't want it send it my way
. I ran all OS til I picked up my first NovaRossi MT.12 and was hooked. That .12 ran with the OS .18cvr gts and passed quite a few.
back to your questions. A few parts and alot of ideas and engineering came from the t4 but nothing gt related came from the t3 parts that I know of. I'm thinkin the gt2 was mostly new to its own animal. I never even had a chance to run either of my gt2 before gas truck 2wd 1/10 scale died around here. I still want to put a nr mt.12 in one of my gt2 and see how it does on the oval just for fun though.
I'm no gt expert by any means so hopefully someone else will chime in and get you some better info. Good luck.

Re: need some advice
i have a factory team gt with the flat blue chassis. it has the t2 suspension. the only parts that are different that i can think of at the moment are the engine mounts/transmission brace and the nose section. the flat chassis doesn't have a seperate nose piece(the chassis is all one piece) and the nose tubes attach to stand-offs that bolt to the chassis.
the newer gt also came with .5 degree rear carriers that have two camber link holes instead of one. for a total of 3.5 degrees of toe. i think the rear suspension arm mounts may have been a bit different too.
the rtr flat chassis also had a slightly shorter chassis compared to the team and factory team trucks and the nose tube stand-offs were different. i think they were cast aluminum rather than composite.

Re: need some advice
maybe the tub chassis trucks turned better because they had a shorter wheelbase?
Re: need some advice
hmm from research it does seem the tub is better handling wise
if i can find a roller(or even an artr) for about $50-$75 id be happy.. cause thats all im gonna end up getting for the rusty
any tips or mods i can do to improve performance and durability?(other than rpm lol)

Re: need some advice
best mod for the buck is MIP 4-n-1 clutch assy. Next I'd say MIP steering assy or something with bearings in it. Stock steering had a tendancy to stick when it got a little dirt in it. A big steering servo helps turn it when it needs it. MIP cvd set.
Some of the not so vital...a trinity type tranny brace where it catches the bulkhead/tranny/brake assy(top tranny) helped with my flexing issues. An rpm rx box helps keep the dirt outta the rx. Of course, if you can find a CR brake assy it would help stop that bad boy if it ends up being a NR MT12. If you do end up with a NR MT12 you'll end up replacing idlers in the tranny so a RRP hardened idler helps. No so necessary if you are the type to tear it apart every week and maintain it. I'm sure more will come up but this is mostly my thoughts on it at this moment...

Re: need some advice
does the OEM steering rack use bushings? if so, cant i just find bearings to replace the bushings? ive done that before, and it has worked out very well
which rrp idler would i need, im assuming its the one for the SC10, but im not 100% sure? im not much into tearing down nitro cars lol
MIP cvd's were already on my list
for the brake servo, ill get something with 100oz of torque, and for the steering, im gonna go overkill and go with something around 150-200... just cause it makes the car more epic lol
i just added the 4-in1 clutch assy to the list(found it on amazon for $20)
the rx box isnt much of worry, i mean.. dirt is dirt.. its gonna find a way to ruin your night by making you clean the car lol
other things on my list are rpm arms f/r, rpm hubs(if i can find em), rpm caster blocks, rpm front bumper(mini), and if im lucky enough to find them, the rpm front and rear body posts
i know 90% of what im doing is complete overkill, but overkill is an under-appreciated achievement lol
for the rear tranny brace, ill end up getting the GPM one, should work just as good as any other extended transmission brace
thanks for all the help so far, i really appreciate it, i just need to get a hold of my cousin and then get rid of the rusty now

Re: need some advice
im not sure on the differences as ive only owned the tub, had my hands on plenty of the 2nd get gt's but not enough to tell you what swaps with any confidence.
ill tell you this much though. i love the rc10gt. they are just fun, easy cars.
and i swapped from various os engines to a nova k12 with a mod sleeve... wow, just wow. i about ruined my shorts when i took my first full speed pass down the strait with it. took a lot of work to break in but was well worth it. fastest car on the oval without question
