For a simple car the wiring got sort of overcomplicated. No worries, it'll all clean up nice.

No, but the previous owner must have. Actually the front bumper holes are factory.

My particular car is a bit different in some of the details, and is sort of a bitsa. The joys of standardised 1/12th screw spacings... As soon as I shovel myself out to the shop I'll get some progress pics.

Some progress today:

Built a new MSC tray with the suicide charge jack and resistors (the white bit is a 1.5 ohm resistor because the suicide cord is straight 12V, the black bit is the jack).

I also fitted the circa 1980 Leisure electronic speed control. I'm not too happy with the Associated rear axle/diff, but I've got a complete Jomac setup, including drilled wheels to try next, I guess to match the Jomac front end... Bitsa this, bitsa that...

It wasn't really obvious in the before pics but the front bumper had been heated with a lighter and bent up at about a 45º angle. I solved that with a heat gun... Nice and flat now. Also I did a mild cleanup on the Parma Turbo Renault motor.

Oh, and the motor pod got a little attention...

Awesome step-by-step restore mate just what I like to see.

BTW nice MSC tray replacement. Did you repalce the original because it had glue and residue stuck to it? If that's just the case and you want to save things like that in the future, a soak in acetone will remove the glue and then the part can be lightly polished with sand paper. It will look as new again. I have saved many parts like this.

I didn't reuse the old msc tray because of the several extra holes (and having a few nib...). I've already given it a home in the plastic scraps box. I'm not one for tossing parts that may have a further use in life.

I wonder why acetone does not break down the epoxies in the grp or cf?

I am glad you're not and thought you might know this one already for sure...

I wondered about the acetone glue thing before, maybe it's down to how long you leave them in for and/or surface area?

It's a strange one isn't it, but a good one....

Well, a little more progress/options (I was breaking in the new tip on the old Ungar UTC-300 )

I went ahead and built up a Jomac rear axle/diff and front and rear lightweight wheels:

I also fully did up the msc and kind of like it, suicide jack and all (I've been searching for a new jack, but it seems that there are no new 1970's type out there...). I also can't seem to find any black Dean's five pin connectors. I haven't made up the rx harness yet (remember, this is before BEC's) with the dropping diodes, due to the lack of Dean's connectors.
