Re: RC10 World's A&L - 1st project since 1995
Also I restored some alloy steering cranks. Not sure if I will use them yet. But they look quite good.
Still need more polishing though. But I got tired so am stopping today.
Next to do...
1. One more fine wet and dry rub down over the whole chassis. Might do this tomorrow if I get time.
2. Send off all items to be professionally re-anodised back to black. Then it will be pretty again
ps
Yes this will be a runner. But also good enough for display

Re: RC10 World's A&L - 1st project since 1995
Heating aluminum will screw up it's temper and make it softer. I once tried filling badly drilled stealth holes in a tub chassis with those aluminum welding rods and ended up ruining it. Afterwards if I smacked the tub against my hand with just mild force the back end would bend. With just a couple of whacks I could get the back end bent over 45 degrees from the main part of the chassis. I could only imagine the wreck it would have been after landing a jump at a track.
I hope the same hasn't happened to your Worlds chassis.

It feels solid just as it was before. You only have to heat it to 400 as the alloy rod is mixed with flux etc so it is much lower than the melting point of alloy!
ps
According to Associated the Worlds is made from a different material / alloy to the Gold tubs.

Re: RC10 World's A&L - 1st project since 1995
Adding that low temp allow is going to prevent it from anodizing correctly now. 400 degrees is also enough to change the alloy temper. I hate to tell you but you are probably going to want to powder coat that chassis now.
Re: RC10 World's A&L - 1st project since 1995
The material added is only 2mm next to one slot, plus the scratch on the rear which is around 0.5 x 3mm. So tiny sections. I'll see how it goes. It either works or it doesn't. It'll either be a stunning looking bit of re-anodising or it'll be a brand new Fibre-Lyte chassis with A&L conversion. We'll see

Mini update:
After a lot of thinking I have decided to drop all alloy items from this car. I will retain a simple 100% stealth black look, more in the theme of retro racer rather than show car. The only colour added will be a hint of Gold - on the Kyosho Option House shocks, plus the re-anodised brushed motor end bell to match. Should be rather pleasing to the eye and look a bit more serious retro racer.
So the alloy steering has now been sold to another member this morning. The alloy Lohas wheels have also just been listed for sale.

Mini update part 2:
It looks like I will be building two cars due to the number of spares and hop up bits I have been buying. This car will be the alloy tub runner. Although it may take a back seat for a while as I still have not had the chassis anodised!
I also plan to build an all carbon fiber car, which will have its own dedicated thread shortly...

Paul,
I was looking forward to seeing the end result. I appreciate your attention to detail.

Edit:
Ignore this thread. Project cancelled as my ideas changed completely half way through this unfinished build.
New carbon build thread is coming...
