10LSS driveway basher budget build

I got this carcass of a fiberglass RC10LSS in trade a while back (thanks, Jeff), but it was missing a few key pieces. Being rather short on money at the moment since we just had central air installed, I wanted to see if I could bring it back to life with just stuff I already had.

Well, not quite... I had to get a right pod side/motor mount from ebay. Should be here Monday. Everything else, I was able to scrounge.

It will have rubber tires, not foam, so it will actually stick to the driveway, and for now it will wear the green Mustang body I botched the paint on from my graphite 10L. Not good enough for the shelf, but it should look good in motion.

This looks like a fun project! I sort of had the same build not that long ago with a Bolink chassis. Funny too because Jeff hooked me up to so I could complete it. I still need to finish the body but it runs.

They just paved the church parking lot next door so I may finally have a place to run my 12i without fear of hitting a pebble. Last pebble I hit sent it airborne and cartwheeling.

Nice! I used to run 1/12 scalers on the tennis courts at my old apartment complex back in MN. Smooth surface, pre-drawn lane lines, and as long as no one was playing, no one cared.

This one won't have ground clearance problems; with those Road Hawgs and the ride height adjusters all the way down, and no spacers in the front, it will sit up pretty high. For a pan car, anyway.

Oooo tennis courts would be cool...never though of that. Bitd we ran inside a building at the grade school, it was concrete and slick as snot.

I work in an Armory but they call them TACCs (Training Area and Community Centers) now and use the drill floors/gym to run my onroads and drifter. They make for some slippery conditions.

Got my motor mount yesterday, so today it's a roller:



I ended up using a Dynamic Strut front end and some TRC inline front axles in order to mount the Custom Works wheels without them rubbing the chassis. Unfortunately, this means the wheelbase is now a tiny bit longer, so the Mustang body, which was a bit short to begin with, now really won't fit. Not sure what to do about that yet...

I just ordered a bunch of G10, we can make that chassis any length you want!

The other thing that I have done in the past is build little ski shaped pieces to relocate the arms back a bit. Since they just bolt on they are easy to remove later for other bodies.

Actually, I don't really want to start hacking this one up, so I think I'm going to just go back to the regular front end and foam tires. Keep it simple, and just run the snot out of it.

I do want to talk to you about a set of shock towers for an RC10, however...

Nice chassis for a basher... would you like to trade for one that is already broken in?

I would suggest using the original front arms for a basher. They are bomb proof compared to the fragile dynamic front end.

Oh, trust me, the underside is nicely "broken in"...

I haven't updated this thread in a while... It is now back on the original front end, running a set of well-worn Bolink foams. I had a great test run, until the old Trinity motor I was using froze up. Haven't had a chance to swap it out for something else yet. Will take some new photos next time it's up and running.
