Ikea Hacks -anyone else modify or repurpose?

Post by j-sou »

One of my pieces made it onto the Ikea Hackers site last week.

It's a couple "Besta" storage units that we use as a credenza. The sofa is 10' long, so it was tough to figure out what to use behind it for storage that wouldn't seem too narrow. I modify everything, so of course I had to do something with it... I edge lit the glass doors and made it into a sort of light box. The graphics can be changed out too. I printed several different semi-translucent images so they can be switched out if we want to change up the style or color scheme in the living room. Right now it's just a dark rainy night street scene.

It's not 100% perfect, but that's how you know I made it

Anyone else modify or repurpose Ikea stuff, or anything else cool??

Nice work , like the idea 8) I didn't modify, but my wife found this 1957 Kuba Imperial stereo cabinet...which became a bar, and then I painted the wall behind it for contrast.

Really cool! I've always wanted to find a vintage stereo cabinet and put modern equipment in it. A bar is a good idea too though!!

Yeah, she did a really nice job on that! Seen it myself in person, but have yet to see any liquor out of it :P  Maybe next time.

You guys have a lot of cool items in your house though. I'm sure you've caught me looking around like one of the kids lol.

I agree!, very cool, and with Reg's, very 1950's, but a hint of what the not to distant future would look like...(for a 1950's point of view) . Love Em both

Very cool. Well done :)

I previously had a 1 meter blue lighting strip hidden behind an I-beam in my kitchen diner. It was so simple yet looked amazing at night.
