On my Sons power wheels quad I ran a 24 volt NiCd battery. Thing would go like hell for about 5 minutes. He was really too little for this much power. On his first ride with 24 volts he pushed the foot switch and it lunged off spinning the wheels. He made a huge sweeping arc in the backyard then crashed into the plastic patio chairs and table breaking a few pieces. He got off saying,"Dad I don't think I want to ride this now." He eventually got used to the power and had fun with it.

Klavy's, your right about how expensive those batteries are. Make them uneconomical to run if you need to replace the battery. I found a power wheels Jerp by a dumpster once with a dead battery probably for this reason

yeah, the batteries are terrible on both cost and capacity. I'm going to convert the boys' police car to a lawn mower battery or something similar, but those are also up there in cost now. wth.

i used to race r/c's with a father/son duo that lived a couple doors up from me back in 91-92. son - driver, dad - mechanic. anyway, the dad was always building custom stuff. well when the kid outgrew his bigfoot power wheels, he took the motor assembly and stuffed it into the back of a tamiya king cab. he used it as a pulling truck. i don't remember how much weight he said it would pull, but it was a cool looking truck. :)

as for modifying a power wheels, my kid had a dump truck but i never messed with it.

No but I wanted to mod my kids Razor electric scooter. I watched some videos and read some threads on modifiedelectricscooters.com and can't believe what some guys have done. I've seen lipo conversions and all kinds of cool stuff.

Tape isn't going to work, especially electrical tape. You could try duct tape because as the shiny wears off, you've got fabric and sticky that would help a bit. Trouble is, it's going to fray and pick up all kinds of rocks, gravel, and small children when it's driven.

As for really good mods, there are a bunch of forums and vids on YouTube about these mods. Just like with RC, you're only limited by your pocketbook!
