tamiyadan - Thanks for the quick reply... Yeah, I Googled Demon Motors and came across that online hobby shop. I did send them an e-mail message about 48 hours ago... but so far no reply yet. Interesting to know that they are probably an early 90's motor. Was also curious to know how rare (or common) these motors are now... Anyway, Thanks again!

WOW! I'll have to say that is a very impressive display case full of quality Vintage stuff!

Thanks too for the Very informative info and details on Brushed Motors... the funny thing is, one of the reasons I left the hobby around 86' was because of all the hassle of cutting the Comm, replacing Brushes and Springs, etc. Just too much work for a young teen back in the day. What actually got me back in the hobby around 2003 was the Associated B4 AND Novak's Super Sport Brushless Motor... Now, over a dozen years later... I find myself collecting old brushed motors from back in the day for nostalgia purposes! Talk about coming Full-Circle!

Demon motors are British. They had two lines of motors, a cheaper one with machine wound motors and a more expensive line with made by Mike Reedy. The Power King was a machine wound 3x17 and really good in offroad racing. I think was released in 1986 or 1987 and using a similar can as used by LRP later.

example early team check point motors were hand built by Jim Greenemeyer they also stand out different constructed cans and brush hoods. these are worth money.


later Jim sold team checkpoint and the motors turned into normal cheap mass produced 540 canned motors with a team checkpoint label. these are worth nothing to true collectors.



however after 2000 Jim returned to team checkpoint and designed an innovative new type of 540 motor with round barrel brushes. these came in at the tail end of brushed motors and were a big marketing failure because everyone moved to brushless motors, these are worth something because they are different and rare.




should note just like trinity, team checkpoint began by re-labeling slightly better then stock mass produced 540 motors.


early Trinity motors after they moved away from relabeling stock 540 silver canned motors were hand made using Kyosho Le mans motor cans. later they copied the cnc construction and the motors were labeled as trinity and then later EPIC produced the motors for trinity.

I´m sorry there are some wrong facts regarding Checkpoint and other motors.
The first Checkpoint motor shown by you is a Platinum, this was an all Big Jim design yes. But it was the last Checkpoint motor made by Jim.
The second motor shown is not a mass production motor, this is a modified motor using the Yokomo can and was made before the Platinum. Much rarer than a Platinum!

The third Checkpoint picture was a very good motor indeed but has nothing really to do with the old Checkpoint motors, and is worth nothing.

It´s not true Checkpoint started by re-labelling mass produced motors. Team Checkpoint is much older than most guys think, started back with slot racing motors. Also was founded not by Jim but he bought the company and name at some point, but that´s another story. When Jim started making RC motors this was modified motors. Of course he also sold relabeled Igarashi motors for stock class as Trinity, Reedy or any other motor maker but this was additional to the modifieds.

Also, when Jim sold the Checkpoint name he never returned to Checkpoint. Yes he worked for a lot of companies as a consultant (even Reedy) but never returned to Checkpoint.

Trinity started making motors based on Igarashi can, as all of the early motor makers. Kyosho Le Mans based motors were later. Kyosho had their own factory for making cans, endbells and armature blanks. When they gave up on this Trinity bought the factory and renamed to Epic.
