I have a hard time getting amped up to paint simple things anymore. So I don't see this one getting painted for a long.... long time. It'll just sit like this.

Long long time I hear you, but you just mean enough time to finish and assemble the front sway bar right?

I may get the sway bar assembled at some point. I may even make the one for the rear too. I guarantee both will get done before the body sees paint.

For both cars, just Dubro Cat No 181 x 4 and some 2-56 rod. At least the route I went.



I've never found the solder-on fittings new myself, but they seem to accumulate in the parts drawers over time.Also in both cases, it looks like the stock balllcup length needs to be chopped a little shorter, in which case a guy could maybe just snip the little brass one in the kit and use it.

The beauty is you don't need to really finish the rear one SCR8P.

Small update here as I'm definitely heading to a Gene Husting replica. Jeff managed to replicate the two shock towers and in the meantime I sourced some decent front GoodYear tires. I'm still on the hunt for rear ones (hint to anyone willing to part with a pair ). Right now I'm trying to identify the steering link rod ends that were used on that car and haven't found anything that looks close to that. Does anyone recognize them?

Those steering links are early Tamiya ones found on the Hilux/ blazer, a few on road cars and the super champ. An issue you will have is that they are threaded for 3mm rod

Thanks Jim, I suspected them to be Tamiya but wasn't sure. They seem like hard to find or expensive.

I removed the ano from a set of used and scratched Edinger shocks and gave them a quick polish. Slotted pistons and fuel tubing all the way.

I´ve got a used pair of the VERY rare and EXTREMELY expensive Tamiya rod ends for You.
Mind You, the hole in the eye is 2mm.

Inner threads, like Shodog mentioned, are 3mm but I can run a SAE tap in them, if You tell me the size - no lefthand tap though.

Thanks for the offer Denis. I'll gladly take them but I need to figure out what's on the other end of the link. It seems like smaller heim joints but they are hardly visible. I think it also uses the original tie rods and nuts of the hilux, which would mean no custom tapping needed. Quite mysterious but as this was still a prototype, Gene probably used what was readily available.

Thanks for the positive vibes guys, I love this build for some reason.

So I ordered a repo body and plan to paint it as close as possible to the original below.
Do you guys have any idea about the color combo used and maybe indicate references to modern Tamiya colors? I'll probably paint it myself and I'm not too experienced, so any advice on how to paint this would be welcome.

I would also obviously love to source the special decals but I have no clue where to find these? I'm mainly after the Ferrari and the Porsche ones. Is anyone recognizing these decals? Parma maybe?
