Reviving my pair in the stable

Hello all,

I've searched and found place for the help I was looking for to get my pair in my stable running again.
First up is my former road rocket, my RC10L...



What I need help with is what options are available for the front wheel/tires?

Since it's bearings in there how do I update this to new foams?

Also for the rears...

Are there any 4 bolt foams anymore?

And my favorite road racer my RC10T turned DS...



I've read on here that changing over to SC10 fronts will allow for going to modern wheels and tires.
I had a question of whether I can just use the axles or do I need to do the whole SC10 fronts?

Appreciate any and all advice/opinions you can give!

For the 10L, most any pan car wheels/tires will fit. If you want to keep the wheels you have, you can get just the foam and mount them on your wheels. But with the available wheels now a days, and the work involved in mounting your own tires, its easier to just buy wheels/tires that are ready to go.

Thanks Matt... I've looked at foams but what I've seen for the fronts are hex or don't have slots in them for bearings.
I agree it's not really worth the effort to glue new foams.
Could you point me somewhere for the fronts that would work?

Now to the DS, is it really that simple of plug and play the SC10 front axles into the DS steering blocks or does it take all of the SC10 parts to make the conversion to hex?

yes, you need the c-hub, steering knuckle and axle assy at least. You'll have to ream out the hinge pin in the c-hub to fit the older hinge pin. Here is the first one I ran across in LoboNYC's RC10DS Lamborghini Gallardo thread.

Ok well, I managed to break the rear axle on my RC10L while cleaning it.
It sheared off right behind the backing plate on the axle... Obviously I wasn't too pleased as I didn't have another in my old box of junk.
So, I have searched the webs and was wondering if this... https://www.teamassociated.com/parts/details/4565-ASC4565-ft_rear_axle/ would work as a ready replacement?
If not any suggestions on what a good replacement might be?

I probably have like 3-4 SS axles in my tool box... they're metal though so the question would be if they're actually straight... haha.

That would be awesome if you had a straight one to spare, but I'd still like to know if the one in the link above would work.
Especially since I seem not to know my own strength.

I see two rear pan car axles on AE's site currently. One says the "oval" car, the other mentions most of the other pan cars and is the one to reference. Tough to really know which one. Just eyeballing it, the one you reference seems to have a shorter length between the threaded portion of the axles and the diff ring on the axle. Then looking at the pic of the car, the drive side hub seems pretty wide. The gap between the tire and spur is larger so I'm thinking the length may not be enough.

I bet you could find one on *bay easy enough by searching for "10LSS axle" and probably get one cheap.

Yup, I've been searching the 'bay regularly but nothing so far for axles that I can find. I couldn't tell by what was listed on the AE site if it would fit or not, but I appreciate your feedback. I will search the webs some more to see if there are other sources for this axle. Would you have the measurements that I should be looking for?

Why not email AE via the website to ask if the axle would work? Last time I did it they were very helpful looking up some old part info for me to get a current comparable part. Not like the parts on the website have a length or anything so you can measure against what you have... that would have been convenient in this case.

I sold off all my pan cars but the one crazy odd-ball one I have... (cause I've only ever seen two of them in my life). I'll see if I can dig up the axles I got to see if any are straight and to get a measurement.

Thanks for that! I went there and looked... it says that would fit an RC12L, would that still work?
