Hello fellow Yokomo gurus.
I want to bring back the stock bulkheads and hubs etc.. for these early dogfighters to like new. Im seeking opinions on wether sand or particle blasting is recommended to strip the ugly ageing and get these surfaces back to new? My only concern is that the process might in some way degridate these parts.
Has anyone got experience with cleaning these items back to like new?
the best method I have used(and will use in the future) is light glass beading. I also think the magnesium should be waxed or oiled afterwards to prevent oxidation. that I haven't really tried yet, but plan to. if you use glass beads and don't focus down tight with lots of air pressure, you won't remove any of the edges of the material.

I've got a cabinet setup with glass bead. Drop me a line if you need this done. I can slip them in when I'm doing some of my other stuff...

I have searched and come up with nothing for anodizing the magnesium parts on these cars. Anyone know if it can be done without destroying the parts?
If no one knows, I will report back when I attempt it.

The Kyosho steering knuckles are aluminum. The cast versions dont't anodize well. And I don't think the magnesium parts will anodise . It is merely a conversion coating to prep it for another type of coating (like stated before). You could paint...
I have a YZ10/project and unfortunately I don't have a manual for it. This is the U.S. release version of the YZ870C. I was able to get an 870C manual online but I was surprised that there seems to be no online/PDF manual for the YZ10. Every place...

Sorry to resurrect this. I am new to the forum as I am getting back into my old RCs I found in the attic from when I was a kid. My fav was the YZ-10 which I would have bought some time around 88/89 since I didnt even have my drivers license yet (I...
So I picked up a Yokomo 870c (YZ10) from a guy in a mega bundle deal and am now getting around to breaking it down and cleaning up everything before I figure out what needs to be replaced. So far it looks like only some hardware needs replacing and...

After a few false starts (work and family stuff) I was turned on to getting a cheap gravity feed media blaster for $20 at Harbor Freight and using Baking Soda in it. My compressor is a 20 gallon and can go up to 125 PSI. The blaster has a operating...
Anyone use something like a case tumbler to clean parts? Like a small one used for bullet casings.
I was looking at the idea originally for cleaning up metal parts but also started wondering if it'd work on the plastic parts. I understand it could...

I used car wax on an anodized motor plate once and it left some discolored streaks on it. Go ahead and tell me I did it wrong........but I think it depends on the color of the anodizing and the base luster of the metal or the porosity of the...
What are the differences besides th 870 having a different body and the aluminum Shock collars? What color a arms came on the 870? Thinking of a resto for my 870.....thanks

here are some pics of the alloy shock collars, the shock internals were different between 870c and yz10 and so was the way the shocks were mounted, rubber as opposed to nylon. Out drives were also different 870c having brass tube which kept the...
I'm guessing vintage yokomo magnesium parts need to be treated with some care.
Does anyone have any advice for cleaning these bits up or are they best left as is, with a nice protective oxidised layer on the surface?
Thanks.

Years ago, I used a wire wheel and it gave the parts a nice look...a little on the shiny side. After a couple of months sitting in the basement, they had a white film on them because the newly poured concrete vented a lot of moisture. I re-polished...
so i have a milk crate of parts for the old rc10, most of them look like this or worse.
