Re: Ruf's Room
I have had this one new original A-Stamp RC10 for nearly 15 yrs now, and it never had a body on it. So around 10 yrs ago I received a lot-buy where I got two red bodies. One had small yellow stripes, the other 100% red with 3 stickers on it. These have been just sitting in a box until this past Wednesday evening, where I had an idea to repurpose the boring one color body, with some exterior paints, decals and stickers. I spent Thursday working on it and can now show it off. It's not perfect, but it looks good enough for this car or even a runner, and can now sit in the glass display cabinet with the other vintage RC10's I have.
If anyone has a spare or nasty looking driver figure they would not mind donating for this buggy, I would gladly accept it and try to breath life into it for this build.
Re-purpose attempt on an old cracked wing:
I found an old wing, that approx 10 yrs ago I tried to remove the paint from and it got smoked to a whitish color (not clear), it was also cracked and the forward edge had two large holes for the wing wire to go thru before bending downward (very awkward looking). The reason for my trying to remove the paint was not for re-using it since it was cracked and had these large holes in the fwd lip, but to test paint removal methods. This one was using heli-nitro fuel, and it did not work. The wing became flimsy and weak, and it got smoked white.
The first photo is one just after trimming off the fwd lip to remove the unsightly wing wire holes the original owner made, but also show the clear packing tape added to the backside to "heal" the crack from going further. You can see how the wing is an off-white stain, and some of the original paint lines can still be seen thru it. This wing's original paint was light blue with green and yellow stripes.
Re-purposed old cracked wing for this as well.
