That turned out great! I'm glad to hear that the traxxas parts worked out, too!

Just an update on the XXT. It's been running great. It is incredibly fast with the brushless system. I installed a Hobbywing combo and the truck is terrific to drive. Recently I started hearing a clicking sound coming from the transmission. Based on previous posts I thought I melted my diff. I tore everything apart and rebuilt the diff several times. Still no luck so I turned my attention to the idler gear which upon closer inspection did show signs of wear. No surprise there. So I thought I was out of luck. I've been searching for replacement XXT idler gears but wasn't having any luck. This evening I was at my LHS and was looking for any idler gear I could see. I found an Associated idler for the B2 that looked pretty close. I bought it and it NEARLY drops right into the XXT trans case. The only issue is the width of the molded bearing spacer inside the gear which causes the bearings to stand proud of the gear not allowing the case to be closed. I used a Dremel to reduce the width of the spacer and was able to get it to fit. Buttoned it all back up and my clicking noises were gone. Just wanted to pass along in information. Part number associated ASC9360.

Put some new wheels on the truck and some original stickers on the body.

Designed and printed a battery holder for my shorty LiPo.

My son had recently gotten into the hobby so I dusted off my own XXT, dropped a modern battery into it and was suddenly returned to the days of my youth. Until of course he crashed into me breaking a ball screw. Lots of the google got me here. I consumed all of the artful, meticulous and down right impressive rebuilds by many of the forum contributors. I recognized that continuing to run the XXT as a daily runner was going to be problematic and expensive. To stay active with my son and to recommit to a hobby that brought me so much joy when I was younger I purchased the new TLR 22T 4.0. That certainly satisfies the need for speed and the convenience of modern parts. So what becomes of the XXT? I can't commit to a showroom quality rebuild because I just don't have the time or the patience to source the parts and I'm going to want to run the car from time to time. So instead I thought it would be fun to document my tear down and rebuild. Not planning to do anything exotic. Just want to see how well she cleans up.

This is what we're starting with.
welp, mine is about roughly the same shape. This was a great inspiration as to what i would like to do with mine.
