Tamiya Fox Lost Drive

Post by amj84 »

Hi,

I’m new to the whole RC car thing. I have just managed to prise my Dads Tamiya Fox 1980’s original off him and have been playing with it with my 10 year old son.

A few weeks back we changed the motor as the old one was done, got some new batteries, lubricated the servo etc. It’s been running fine for about 3 weeks and then the other day it started making a grinding noise from the gear box.

I took the gearbox and drive shags apart and put it back together re-lubricating all the cogs and it worked for about 10 minutes and now seems to have lost drive almost completely.

The right wheel (when looking from the back) spins and turns the motor however the left one spins independently and you can literally flick it and it’ll keep spinning. I’ve double checked all the joints and the axels going into the gear box and they seem fine so I think it is something to do with the rear axle.

So my question is, can I use novafox parts to update my fox? Will this work and what do I need? I’ve found loads of parts but not sure I can find everything I need.

Or are there other parts I could use that would do the same job?

Any help is really much appreciated

sounds like your bevel gears have fallen out of your differential gear. Yes u can use all Nova Fox parts to fix it

I’ve checked all the gears and they are fine, no damage to any of the cogs and they are all fine.

I think the joint on the wheel to the axle is worn.

The plastic wheel hubs on the rear of the Fox are prone to cracking, so take off the wheels and check those for starters, but I would suggest the drive shaft hexes are shot, not really a serviceable item though, would have to replace the entire things with Nova Out drives and dog bones
