Futaba mc10 FET might be the right looking esc you are after...
I don't know how big they are, but do seem to be normal sized.

i was thinking the same thing-- & I have one (well, it is atleast Futaba). I'd be happy to donate it, but am not sure if it's condition will meet this build's level of clean & nice

The car looks fabulous>>

I too am back to work and suddenly have no time for anything, again. Can't wait for retirement!

Thanks for the kind comments folks - Futaba MC(1)10 is a good idea indeed, the looks would match nicely!

The hunt begins :)

Edit: The Fresh Prince (private joke) has suggested something interesting, but that requires digging through the stash (again...) - I will keep y'all posted :)

Hi folks

Long overdue update on this project (wow, 1.5+ years)... Long story short, the cosmetics took a huge time to crack and much more work than expected. The mechanics were the easy part in the end  And some life events came in between, which didn't help

First, a huge thanks to Doug @XLR8. You will soon understand why

The next step was speedo... It had to have some credentials, be black, silver, work well with the rest of the car, and most crucially: been already be paid for

The answer was this HPC in the novak box-o-speedoes, which needed some TLC.

Image

First things first, it actually got a good internal cleaning, and some new wires soldered to it - always a dreadful operation if you ask me. I think it turned out pretty well. When I do this, I use 14AWG wire because it is so much easier to manipulate and fit back properly. Tip: brake cleaner on a rag works very well at removing the Turn**y and other cheap branding prints on an otherwise SUPERB quality silicon wire!!!

Then it needed to become black... Nylon dye works really really well actually.

Image

I love Novak's legendary orange, but Tony Neisinger started it ~40 years ago so please blame it on him rather than me

To note: the black reveals a LOT of the imperfections on the case if any... this HPC was far from perfect and missing a label, so it was the right candidate for such a transformation.

Image

Don't forget both the pot knob AND the LED "lens" ... glad I didn't lose them!

Reassembled:

And here's where Doug @XLR8 kindly stepped in: based on the measurements / pics I did of another HPC in much better shape this time, he patiently recreated this little wonder:

Which after a few iterations looks like this:

And the mock-up - it looks great! Good job Doug! :)

Thank you Sir for the kind comment, glad you like it.

In the end, this yielded that crazy sight:

Doug did a fantastic job, because honestly you cannot spot the differences with the naked eye, unless you have an original right next to the repro.... and once applied to the black HPC, it looks like that piece of goodness (sorry for the blurry pic, the printing is actually sharp in real life!)

you can actually buy this stickers - proceeds to rc10talk, you paypal the site directly :) Link here:

And once everything is in the car, it's looking good too - sorry no outdoor pic today.

Looks awesome Paul.
Using the proceeds from the sale of the decals to benefit this site is an outstanding idea. Well done!!!
