cva or cvd which do you prefer?

Post by Kayne »

What works better? I know the main difference is the location of the cup. The cva's have it on the axle and the cvd's have it on the bone. My question really is does this make that much of a difference performance wise? Or something more for the suspension. Also I just found out that B44 cva bones don't fit into B4 cva axles. Tried to peice together some cva's for a project out parts available at the lhs. Didn't want to wait on shipping. Maybe I just got a bum set that's why they don't fit. So any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

I don't think it matters much. I will say that having the cup on the axle could give you more room for suspension droop, as the axle gets close to the a-arm. the bone is very narrow in that instance and could give you more freedom, where the cup end is bulkier and could get in the way. I suppose that also applies to the front axles on a 4wd buggy, since there is alot going on with the knuckle/spindle/c-hub, etc.

The only 4wd car I have is an old pro radiant and has bones front and rear. This is my first venture with cva's so I guess I will just see what happens and take it from there.

Functionally the same, the cup is on the axle with a CVA, on the bone with a CVD. If I recall the naming difference has more to do with naming/design rights owned by MIP.

This is an old but interesting post. Any new thoughts on comparing a CVA or CVD for an RC10B4?

The inside hub would have to accommodate the size of the cup throughout the suspension travel would be the obvious drawback.
If the cup is on the bone with a (CVD) maybe a slightly higher center of gravity would be a drawback.
I wonder if there is more rattle and shake on the hub with the CVD?
Inquiring minds want to know if CVDs on RCs are a thing of the past...
